| I have been a hand gunner for several years. My problem is I like the nice stuff. Sigs, HKs etc. I would like to get an AR but still don't have a feel for what is considered the good stuff versus maybe lower quality. I definitely want quality and reliability. I also need to decide between DI or gas piston. Locally I can get S&W, LMT, Sabre, Bushmaster, Olympic. Any suggestions? |

Noveske and DI. Pistons are for noobs. Care to elaborate ?? Pistons are a Solution in search of a problem. They market well to those lacking experience with the AR platform. The unreliability of the ar platform is an urban legend. Even dirty and dry the will run longer than needed. |

as generic as this statement is, i kind of tend to agree. Seems like MOST of the people throwing piston kits in their rifles are newer AR owners who have never even experienced issues with the platform, and just heard that DI is unreliable and Pistons are the new thing. |
| There are tone of threads that handle the " what should I buy" topic. Just remember we live in the hi tech computer age. You are not limited to what the local shop has on the shelf. I never even look at what the local shop has, I order online and have it sent to my FFL who is a neighbor of mine. As others have said Noveske, Colt, LMT, KAC, BCM, Spikes, Armalite are all top tier rifles. Some may not put Spikes on the top tier but when you look at their specs that is where they belong. The best part is they have middle tier pricing and that is why they are so popular. We all need to decide on what fits our needs. Have fun, read all you can but I am warning you, these things are addictive!! |

DI works for me. If anyone feels they really need a piston they should watch this video showing a DI torture test.

In no particular order a list of guns I would bet my life on are, KAC, LMT, BCM, Colt, LWRC, S&W. I've had experience with all of them, I personanly own KAC and BCM. Both guns are close to if not over the 10k round mark and I have yet to have any major issues. That above is a pretty good list. I'd add larue and noveske to it as well and maybe spikes based on peoples responces here(don't have any good first hand experience with spikes or lwrc). Personally for a carbine I'd go with a kac complete lower(which is hella nice with the sopmod, ambi controls, and 2 stage trigger) or the complete lmt lower with sopmod and get a noveske, larue, bravo company, etc upper that looks the best to you. For a complete gun I'd look at the larue obr lite, the kac, some of the higher end lmts, or the noveske. |
