This is the future for sure. The military has put forward a request to upgrade the lethality of the AR platform with the new 855A1+ high velocity ammo. Advancements is barrel steel is allowing extremely high pressures. The Aramad (sp) barrel in the SOLGW MK1, Surefire Hicar, Geissele are three rifles headed to the testing. I’m curious to learn more. 855A1 is already a hot round I’d be interested in specs on the + pressures and velocity |

| I’m definitely interested in how the HICAR program progresses, and it definitely makes more sense than the welfare program for Sig… That said, some calibers don’t fair well in the accuracy department when pushed with too much velocity. I hope this doesn’t fall into that category. |

What's to prevent a random Joe from getting a hold of these HICAR rounds and running them through their standard plain Jane M4 rifle? Seems that the ICAR receiver at least forces you to a different form factor. Ultra high pressure 5.56 ammo seems like a recipe to blow up some rifles. |

The round case itself is the most important piece of that. The rifles should be able to handle the increased pressures as long as the case keeps together and pushes the energy forward. |
| The HICAR program is from SOCOM. They needed a rifle upper that can handle the m855a1+ due to the pressure. They had criteria that include ability to handle the pressure of the round, it had to be in 5.56 due to the amount of ammunition throughout the world, a SOF soldier can’t do a battlefield pickup of ammo of the new calibers, and it had to be able to fit the M4 platform, plus a few others. You can fire the high pressure round in your rifle, but it may not end well. |
