I'm pretty sure I understand the importance of this (e.g. feeding issues at a minimum) but what I'm wondering now is if I bought a rifle which was vertically staked, not horizontally, do I just go ahead and re-stake it anyways just in case? Also, how tight should it be before staking it? If there are only a few grooves in the screw, and it doesn't line up with the would-be stake location, do I force it to tighten or loosen or just stake it as-is when it feels good and tight? Lastly, what happens if I need to get the screws out? I mean, would I ever need to??? Thanks! |

Ahh, ok, so new key and new screws is basically a requirement to remove/re-stake.. Got it.. I was thinking I could get new screws no problem, but the key would basically be ruined and could not really (maybe it's possible if you're really precise) be re-used again.. So that leaves my last question - when would you WANT/NEED to remove the gas key?? |
| Sometimes keys get dented and banged up and need to be replaced or maybe your building everything from scratch. If its staked right your gonna damage the key when removing it..its best not to use again unless its a situation where a replacement cant be had then you would have to make do. |

Ok, so there is no real reason I'd need to remove the gas key? I mean, of course unless the next round is not feeding perhaps and I've checked everything else and that isn't it... any other reasons?? Should I ever bother to remove it and clean anything in there, like every 10,000 rounds or something, or should it be left unchecked until something requires me to remove it, as stated above?? Thanks! |
