I bought a Stag 2H and want to put on a Yankee Hill clamp-on sight block with fold down site. How in the heck do I remove the old front site housing off the barrel. I bought a video on buiding a AR-15. It shows knocking out the pins to remove the front site housing to take it off. Well, I don't see any pins to knock out using a punch. Is it even possible to remove the old site? Thanks for any help. First AR for me

How do I get the base pins out? Thanks

Knocking the pins out can usually be done if you 1.) knock them out from the correct side (left for most factory installations - they are normally tapered), 2.) arrange to do your pounding so that you get a good coupling with the pins (a punch with a concave end, a Brownells FSB block (below) and a concrete floor will help) and 3.) use a penetrating oil such as Kroil or PB Blaster.

Thanks for the replies and photo. The base pins look like a rivet then a pin. If it was a roll pin I'd have it knocked out by now but I'm stumped as to these pins (rivet). I would hate to screw everything up. I just have flat end punches and roll pin punches.

Well, I used a brass punch and ruined that.lol  I then got a steel punch and gave it a few taps Nothing! Then I gave it one heck of a tap and out the pin falls. I guess I was being too cautious. Thanks again. I just needed a kick in the @#$.lol
