I am building a Cav Arms lower with RRA's parts. The two stage trigger is from RRA and it functions fine until I install the safety. In the fire position, it will not allow the hammer to drop.

Should I grind a bit off the safety or on the hammer? What is the best way to remove the metal, a small stone or hand file with a finish stone?

Thanks

Check with RRA to confirm if they want to replace the FCG first, but it comes down to how much play you have in the FCG with the selector set on safe.

Depending on the amount of free travel you have in the safe position, then you have to be the judge of what part to address. You want little movement of the trigger on safe, and if this is correct, then the selector needs to be addressed. On the other hand, if the selector will not move into the safe position, then the back of the trigger needs to be addressed.

+1 to Dano523 with his advice.  When I installed my RRA 2-stage the hammer wouldn't fall at all.  The trigger would barely move.  I had asked similar advice on this forum and one individual advised me to file the trigger tail down.  Do the math.  If you file the selector down and screw it up it's a $15 part.  If you file the tail of the trigger, it's half of 2 parts that cost you $120.  I filed the selector flat with a file that fit the width of the flat (you will see the pattern as you file so keep it evenly against the selector flat so material is removed evenly), tried the trigger...over and over until the hammer just started to fall.  Then I slowed down until the hammer fall was reliable.  If you back off the grip and take the selector spring and detent out, removing the selector again and again is easy to do.

If you fit it with too little clearance, any grit between the selector and trigger may interfere as well so find a happy medium.

The hammer will fall with the selector removed, but not with it installed at all. I will try removing a bit of metal from the safety selector flat and see it that makes a difference.

Well, I machined off about .015" from the selector flat and polished it and the trigger a bit and that fixed the problem. Test fired it three twenty round magazines worth today and it works just fine. The guys at CavArm's told me that the RRA two stage triggers have the biggest tolerances and it is not uncommon to have to fit them in their lowers.

Thanks for the guidance guys/Dave
