Hey everyone. I've decided to start my first AR build, but don't know exactly what I need other than the upper/lower/stock. If someone has the time could they please list everything that I need?

Thanks in advance.

You listed what you "need" all on your own.

Complete upper. (Receiver assembly, Barrel assembly, Bolt Assembly)
Complete lower. (Lower Receiver, Lower parts kit)
Stock assembly. (Stock, Receiver Extension, Various parts)

Information found in the "Build it Yourself" forum should fill in the gaps.

*edit*

I will add one piece of information: use this chart to compare and contrast brands and their features (or lack thereof).

That's a pretty wide open question....

Lower receiver = starts with a "stripped lower", a piece of metal with a serial #, and a bunch of holes in it.  To complete the lower, you'll need a LPK, or "lower parts kit", which will have a bunch of roll pins, trigger, hammer, safety, bolt and magazine releases, and small parts and pins in it.  The stock screws into the back of the lower.  The stock has a tube in it, which contains a buffer, and buffer spring.  That pretty much completes the lower.

Upper receiver - start with a "barrel assembly", which is an upper receiver, with a barrel screwed onto the front, delta ring, hand guards, and a gas tube and front sight.  To turn the Barrel assembly into a Complete Upper Assembly, you'll need a Bolt Carrier Assembly, and a Charging handle.  If its a flat-top, you'll need to add a rear sight of some sort.

The Complete Upper assembly is attached to the Lower receiver by 2 pins which come as part of the Lower Parts Kit.

Of course there are a 100 different options for about every part and assembly on an AR, which is what makes it so fun!   You can buy every part individually if you want to, but its cheaper to buy sub-assemblies usually.

I would start with a "everything except stripped lower kit" from someone such as Del-ton.  The upper will be complete, headspaced, torqued properly, and ready to shoot (after you clean it).  You'll get everything else you will need, such as a lower parts kit, and stock assembly, which you will assemble onto your stripped lower receiver.  The stripped lower will have to be transferred through a FFL, everything else can be UPS'ed to your door.

Welcome aboard!

Brownell's offers a fantastic chart to help you with ordering of parts and such.  I used it on my last build, and it was spot-on.

Thanks! I just printed it out! It looks overwhelming but I haven't really read it it.

It's got a lot of info, but it's quite straightforward, really.

The way I handled this when I built mine was to decide ahead of time what I wanted the gun to look like and how I wanted it to perform.  In my case, that meant using the Mega billet upper / lower / charging handle set.  I also knew I wanted a rail of some kind, flip-up sights, and a 16" barrel.

I punched that info into the form and went from there.  It really all came together just fine.
