Just finished a DPMS lower.  I am leaning toward building a M4 type carbine first.
Do all M4 barrels have M4 feed ramps?   Will I need an upper receiver with M4 cuts?   Are there more reliability problems than a standard 20" AR?   I have a second lower and will build a 20" flat top next.   Would it be better to start with the 20" rifle first?

This is a great site.  Thanks for any input.

Welcome to the board.

Not all barrel extensions have the M4 feedramps, so you want to pay attention if you don't order an assembled upper.  My carbines all run fine, and so do thier full size brethren.

The enhanced/ M4 feedramps are nice, but probably not needed if you don't shoot SP ammo or FA.  For whatever its worth, I've had real world feed issues with SP ammo even with a Colt w/ M4 feedramps, so nothing is perfect.

Thanks.  Just found the Clearing up “M4 Feed Ramp” misinformation discussion.  At this point, I don't want M4 ramps on the barrel extension or upper receiver.

Thanks.  I decided to build a flat top 20" rifle first, and will post a picture when done.  It will be after Christmas (wife has gotten my wish list from Del-Ton.com ).
