These are a couple picutures of the AR I just built. This is my first AR-15 and is set up varmint style. http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z312/rastapope/Picture007.jpg http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z312/rastapope/Picture008.jpg Model1Sales upper RRA 2 stage trigger Ace skeleton stock Ergo grip Stag lower Leupold 4-12x40 I read both good and bad about the Model1 kits before I ordered one. So far I am very please with this rifle. It was purchased primarily for coyote hunting. Groups all average about 1" at 100 yards and I am not the best shot. That is plenty of accuracy for what I intend to do with it. |
I'm not sure what kind of scope mount that is. When I was looking at them most of the ones were cheap. I liked the one piece mount a lot better. As far as the scope sits it kind of sucks. I need a longer rail so that I can move the scope farther forward. Can i add a longer rail without replacing the tube or are they one in the same. Pardon the newb questions.....I am still figuring all of this out. |
OK. Most will discourage you from mounting across the flat top and the handrails. That's why the LaRue mount extends forward from the top rail. I just don't like the price of the LaRue. If I could find a cheap one piece mount, I personally would try to mount it across the two rails. I use a Troy handguard, so it matches up pretty good with my flattop; I don't think it would be an issue. If you want to keep your handguards, get the LaRue mount. Link to LaRue mount Notice how far forward it places your scope. It usually gives the perfect eye relief, putting the scope right around the charging handle. |
Although it is expensive, it is probably the best option to get the scope properly mounted forward of the receiver while also maintaining proper height. I was thinking of doing this, but for $200, I'm halfway to an EOTech 3x behind my EOTech 512. Plus, I don't have the scope yet, so that covers part of rest of the price of the magnifier. You could probably get by with putting on a rail, like the MI or Troy that lines up with the reciever rail, then mount it across the two rails. This isn't the best method, but I still think it would work. My Troy rail is super tight and it's not going anywhere. I would be confident mounting your mount across the two rails. |

Looks like the birth of another beautiful varmint rifle! I've sure enjoyed mine: http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u130/hlh111/IMGP0861002.jpg |
