Ok I currently own an AR and I was thinking that I would start off my first build kinda simple..or cheating you may say....I was thinking I could start off by putting together an upper that I could currently use with my lower ---then as funds/time became available in the future build a lower to complete that rifle....Does this sound like a viable idea...If so any suggestions on what I should build....I was looking to see if I could put together like maybe a 6.8 SPC, maybe a bull barrel config if possible...to be honest the .458 SOCOM has my interest piqued, but I started looking at the cost of ammo, and I think it would drive me to reload awfully fast...I would like something I could use to hunt with also...any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated...thanks

My Boys and I just completed 3 builds from the ground up. Unfortunately I now have the disease and I am looking at parts to build a second upper. I want to build a 20" or 24" same caliber (5.56) for convenience, reloadable, and availability. I don't see anything wrong with having one lower and two uppers. I am like you though and as money permits then I will build the lower to match.

I was thinking:
VLTOR MUR uppr or Sun Devil
Larue 13.2"
Young Natl Match BC
Superior 20" bbl

so then...am i correct in my though process....I should be able to build either a 6.8 or .458 upper, and use it with my existing lower...at least until i build another lower...
