Finally got my first build complete.  This was completely from scratch, no pre-assembled components here, and for a hell of a price.  Thanks to the arfcom crew for helping give me the knowledge to make this happen.  I have been collecting parts since last summer. Finished pinning the gas block yesterday.  I took it out today and it functions great.

Parts List-

  1. Stripped Upper - Northwest Custom Precision  $40.00

  2. Stripped Lower - Palmetto State  $49.00

  3. RRA LPK – Riflegear.com $59.99

  4. Carbine Stock Kit - TR Enabling  $52.50

  5. M16 Bolt Carrier - TR Enabling  $105.00

  6. 16" Barrel 5.56 (Mid) - Sota Arms $106.00

  7. YHM FF Mid Length - Primary Arms  $109.99

  8. A2 Gas Block/Post (F) - Palmetto State  $35.00

  9. Front Sight Spring - Primary Arms $1.00

  10. Front Sight Detent - Primary Arms  $1.25

  11. Mid-Length Gas Tube - Primary Arms  $14.99

  12. Gas Tube Roll Pin - Riflegear.com  $0.59

  13. Yankee Hill Flip Rear Sight - Riflegear.com  $79.99

  14. YHM Muzzle Break - Primary Arms  $22.99

  15. Charging Handle - Ebay  $17.27

  16. Forward Assist Assembly - Riflegear.com $12.99

  17. Ejection Port Cover Assembly - Palmetto State  $5.99

  18. Standard AR Front Sight Post - Palmetto State $4.99

Total = $719.53

Prices do not include shipping or tax, nor the miscellaneous tools I needed to purchase.  Those were maybe around $50.  I was able to take advantage of Black Friday sales, Rocket Hub (!) and watching local fun shows for good prices.  I wasn't in a big hurry, so I was able to wait for the right prices.

Northwest Stripped Upper-

Drilling the gas block/sight post - jig free.  Achieved perfect alignment with the upper receiver.  Not sure if I'm lucky or good.  We'll say I'm good.

At the range - this is right out of the bag, never sighted in.  50 yds

Here's some YouTube videos I found extremely helpful.

Not a bad looking rifle.

I was looking at getting a PSA Blemished Lower and starting my first build. I'd probably take awhile to do it too and spread the cost out over a few months myself. Got to many other hobbies that cost money too...so have to spread the wealth

I do like the looks of that YHM FF Mid Length.  So how consistent did you get with it once you got it zero'd in?

I thought about building from an 80% lower but I think I break my cherry with a stripped one instead.  The less drilling I have to do the better (at least for the first time).

This trip was mostly a function test.  I want to get the barrel broke in and forgot my cleaning kit.  My bad.  I put ~30 rounds through it.  I'll go back out another day and finish sighting it in.
