Hey! I have been browsing the website for almost a year now but never really made the jump to register and interact until today. I am out of people to talk to about my build since no one around me has any idea what I am talking about. So I guess this is also an intro post! I have been shooting all my life whether in scouting, hunting, or just for fun. However I have never built a gun before, so this has been one heck of a fun big boy lego set!

So on to my build! I am aiming for an 18" DMR build. Its meant for a mi of range time as well as 2/3-gun which I would like to start doing next year (More for fun than competition)

Lower is as follows

Anderson Stripped Lower Receiver
Ergo Tactical Deluxe grip (without base plate)
Rock River Arms Star Selector
Magpul Enhanced Trigger Guard
Battle Arms Enhanced Takedown Pin
Geissele Hi-Speed National Match DMR trigger (hoping it was worth the price)
DPMS A1/A2 Style Buffer Tube
DPMS Rifle Buffer
Tubb Speedlock Flat Buffer Spring (Also Hopefully worth the price)
Magpul PRS Stock

I may be forgetting something but I think that is it

Upper is as follows

SAA Stripped Upper with no name dust cover/charging handle (I plan to upgrade this to a BCM Gunfighter ambi unless someone else has a suggestion)
SAA Frankenbolt Carrier Group
Troy Low Profile Gas Block
Standard Rifle Length gas tube

and this is where I stop! I am not sure where to go from here on my parts and would like some guidance or suggestions. Everything is assembled so far so that part was easy but I am itching to finish and test this sucker out!

The parts I am thinking of getting are
Black Hole Weaponry 18" 1:8
Precision Armament AFAB
I want a free float that is 15", thinking the Yankee Hill Todd Jarrrett but a nice keymod would be better (or so i think)

any and all help would be appreciated! Sometime tomorrow when I am home I will take a picture of my build so far so you can see what all I have going on.

Disclaimer: I don't DMR

I am guessing you don't need any of the aft end rails. I would look for a lighter Hand-guard with only one rail... or no rail because you will probably use the rail on your upper for the scope. What are the benefits of a 20" barrel vs 18"? I am thinking you want 20" barrel for a DMR rifle. Also, would a Wylde be any better. Probably not needed but something to look into. For a DMR you will be shooting heavier ammo. 1/8 twist is probably the sweet spot. Not sure if there is a specific bullet weight and twist ratio that DMR shooters use.

Isn't this fun. I don't even shoot DMR but I had fun looking stuff up about it.

Best of luck in your build!

To me DMR was just the best categorization I could think of but I don't want a 100% true DMR. I probably would have  gone AR10 and built a SR25 clone.

The reason I want to go 18 vs 20 is the velocity difference vs length is enough that I think the 18 will be perfect. I was trying to keep the barrel plus device at a 20" inch max and the afab is 2" by itself. I want it long enough and smooth enough (reason I went rifle length gas system) that I can shoot a couple yards with backup shots rather quickly but not so long that if I did a run and gun course or urban tactical course that I don't have to much excess on the end of the gun.

That's why I was thinking the Todd Jarrett because I would still like a bipod eventually.

This is exciting though! I've already planned out my second build when this one is done, then eventually I will work on my SR25 clone (which has always been my favorite rifle)
