I've been reading and searching for a few months now trying not to embarrass myself by posting something that's been asked before.  Now, I'm just building a checklist for my first time out with my first AR.  Any correction is extremely welcome.

I have the RRA Elite Comp rifle on order and have been getting "necessaries" ordered and on the way for a bit now.  Accessories are Vickers Combat Application Sling, EOTech  552.A65/1, Tangodown BGV-MK46, and (5) 30 rnd. C-Products mags (might get some 20 rnd. mags for range use).

Now, the first day at the range checklist.  I'm going to try an keep this updated with suggestions and keep the "steps" listed chronologically.  Additions will be listed in red and un-necessary steps will be left with strikethrough to show my ineptitude from the beginning.

Read over the Maintenance & Cleaning section.  --knightstar

1.  Clean the rifle first.
     a.  Oil the shit out of it --WorstCaseScenario
     a.  Lubricate as necessary as your situation (location, climate, etc.) allows.  --hobbsar
2.  Shoot about 10-20 rounds to break-in the barrel. (Barrel is chrome lined, so no need for "extensive" break-in.)
3.  Zero iron sights at 50 yds. and double check.
4.  Attach EOTech and zero at 50 yds. as well.  (I'm still trying to figure out if this rifle and EOTech will co-witness "as is.")
5.  Shoot the hell out of the thing.
6.  Check zero.
     a.  Oil the shit out of it --WorstCaseScenario
     a.  Lubricate as necessary as your situation (location, climate, etc.) allows.  --hobbsar
7.  Shoot some more (have fun).
8.  Clean.
     a.  Oil the shit out of it --WorstCaseScenario

I appreciate any suggestions, and if this has been done before, please point me in the correct direction and properly chew my butt.

This is silly, 'cause I don't think you're stupid, but I have to say it.

Between 1 & 2 has to be oil the shit out of it.  Then you can oil the shit out of it some more between 5, 6, 7 and again after 8.

Preachy, I know, but a little (a lot) of oil is often the difference between being thrilled with your rifle and thinking you got a lemon.

Congratulations and have fun!

I have my first AR on order right now too so I appreciate this thread as a noob.  I would also like to know more about "oil the shit out of it" though.  Is there a thread on proper AR oiling or do you guys have some specific advice. Thanks and I hope I didn't hijack the original thought.

After shooting I just clean the chamber, the barrel and clean and oil all the parts in the BCG...

I want to know if there is more places I should be oiling...

Oh... I got one for you.  At 10,000 rounds, check for cracking at the bolt.

Dont oil the shit out of it if operating it in sandy environments. That comes from the Army's M-16 training manual.

Thanks for the heads-up, hobbsar.  I reworded it a bit differently.    Should be a bit better now.
