Ok guys - I just bought a Spikes Lower  - Got the Lower Kit on - now lets all help me build a machine....

I am going to be open to suggestions for the rest of it.

FIRST UP - THE STOCK - help me find what stock to put on this bad boy.  My first preference is Desert Brown btw...

I play to use this for 3-gun comp and Coyote Hunting - plan on putting a 1-4x type scope on it

Typically I will try to choose a stock that will offset some of the weight of the barrel. What length barrel are you looking at?

ETA: A 1-4x optic is typical of a RECCE style rig. My RECCE has a 16in middy barrel with a 12in rail and an ACS stock FWIW

I'm most likely going with a 16" barrel

Just thought I'd throw this in there. But you may wanna black out your serial number on any gun pics you post online. If not someone can report it stolen an if the numbers are ever run they can get your gun. just a word of caution.

Man you need to just go shopping and find what you like.  At the top of the website are great dealers that are good to go.... Find what you like if you are unsure run it by us and we can give you our opinions.

Stay away from Tapco cheap kind of stuff and I think you will do alright.  Plus you want this to be your rifle not one that we would build.  You got a good start keep up the good work and post pics with updates on your thread.

Thanks a lot - this was my first time - and VERY easy to do actually...

What about CAA stocks - not a bad price - look cool - how is the quality?

Not the best out there.  You could do worse but would not be my first choice.  You might try the Magpul kool-aid it is quality and inexpensive stuff.  I use a lot of Magpul stuff on some of my builds.

Kool-Aid kit???

Kool-aid implying it seems to be the trend currently so everyone is drinking it.

When someone refers to drink the kool-aid it is referring to the cult that committed mass suicide in South America in the 60 or 70's by drinking kool-aid laced with cyanide.

Ahh - see there lies the issue - i'm just a young 28 - so you gotta speak modern terms LOL

I'll check out magpul for sure...

Its not Coyote Brown but DSGarms.com still has their "Going Green" sale on I think.  I got my Magpul ACS in OD from there a month ago.  They have great deals on green magpul equipment

I would go with a DSA mil spec buffer assembly from AIM and a Vltor Modstock in black from Bravo.  It is not brown but you can't beat the combo for $90 dollars.  After that for the upper I would go with a Spikes LE Upper from AIM.

I like the VLTOR modstock. I've got an ACS on one of my builds and I think its too heavy and dont care for the extra inch of length. I've got a CTR on another build and its decent for what it is, but I like having the latch to open/close the stock exposed so its easy to grab and change the length.

The VLTOR stocks give you the QD socket for sling attachment and good cheak weld, and if you buy the model on clearance brom Bravo Company USA (see add at the top of the page) theyre only $50 until they run out.

If you put in an order with them make sure you grab one of the pre-production Gunfighter charging handles for $25. Theyre a great deal for the price, the normal ones are $44.

I really like the MagPul UBR - it uses a carbine buffer correct?

I have the same lower. Nice fill job!

Also very similiar style as the MagPro at half the price - What about the ERGO F93?

The UBR is nice if you shoot NTCH. If you don't its probably not the best. The ergo F93 is a simplified Magpul M93. I want to give one of these a try sometime.

ETA: the UBR does use a carbine buffer.

OK so I just ordered the F93 - now I need a spring and a buffer - anyone have suggestions?  Are there a lot of differences b/w the 3.99 DPMS spring and the 20.00 springs?!?!

For most stuff I would just use the cheap spring, they work fine.

Looking great!! Are you going to put on any optics and or back up irons? If you are i think magpul mbus back up irons + Eo tech 557 w/ Eo tech 3x magnifier would look great. But do what you want to do with it after all it is your gun. But that is what I have on my ar + other goodies of course.
