I've been a pretty awesome lurker up to this point, but now as a college graduation present to myself I've decided to start building an AR. Here is the parts list for the lower:
Stripped AGP Arms lower Daniel Defense LPK BAD-ASS Ambi Safety MIAD grip Mil-spec CTR Magpul ASP and MS2 Magpul aluminum trigger guard I just picked up the lower today and ordered the BAD-ASS safety...waiting to hear back from someone to put the rest of the parts on order for the lower. For the upper I really want to run something like this: BCM upper w/ DD Lite 10.0 rails http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/BCM-16-M4-Upper-Receiver-Daniel-Defense-p/bcm-urg-m4-16%20ddl10.htm With: BCM BCG BCM Gunfighter Mod4 CH Troy DOA rear and M4 front BUIS I'll probably throw a PA micro dot on in the mean time since I hear they are pretty good and don't want to bust out another $500 for a T1 immediately. Eventually a BattleComp 1.0 As far as that upper goes...I know right now I basically want to run something with 10" rails because I hate the way the standard FSB looks as well as how it looks when aiming through an optic. I'd perhaps like to go with a midlength gas system, but can't find anyone that has a complete upper group with 10" rails besides BCM and their middy 10" setup is over $1k. If anyone knows of a carbine or middy 16" upper available let me know...I would prefer a DD Lite 10.0 system since I like the continuous rail. I'd consider other 10" rails on it for a good price. And a couple pics of the lower I picked up... http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y29/btm7687/Weapons%20of%20Minor%20Destruction/AR-15%20Build/agplower.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y29/btm7687/Weapons%20of%20Minor%20Destruction/AR-15%20Build/amuricah.jpg |

So quite a bit that I forgot to post on here. After I got the lower in I started ordering some of the lower parts I needed. First was a BAD-ASS ambi safety and aluminum Magpul trigger guard...after that was a Daniel Defense LPK. After ordering I got on the EE and started browsing for uppers. I actually found one that wasn't my first choice, but it sounded like a really good deal. The seller and I came to an agreement on price and I bought it immediately.
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y29/btm7687/Weapons%20of%20Minor%20Destruction/AR-15%20Build/lmtupper.jpg The upper is an LMT upper with LaRue 12.0 rails I realized that this upcoming weekend would be a good time to break in the AR. I'm taking a hunting trip with a friend and we will have free reign over quite a bit of private land...it was the perfect time to pop it's cherry. The race was on after the upper purchase to get the rest of the gun ordered so I could get it built before I left. Slowly earlier this week parts started coming in. First up was the Magpul trigger guard. Being as this was my first AR build I ended up scratching the lower a tiny bit around the roll pin. http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y29/btm7687/Weapons%20of%20Minor%20Destruction/AR-15%20Build/photo1.jpg The day after the trigger guard came in I got a larger box full of goodies: http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y29/btm7687/Weapons%20of%20Minor%20Destruction/AR-15%20Build/photo2.jpg 5x windowed PMAGS, CTR, MIAD, ASAP, and stock mounting kit. Turns out I got sent a commercial stock mounting kit for my mil-spec CTR so a new buffer tube is in the mail. I figured I could just use the other crappy DPMS stock for this weekend and swap out the CTR on when I get back. Around this time I also learned my LMT BCG and BCM Gunfighter charging handle got misrouted to Alaska, the tracking actually has not been updated since this and I have no idea where they are. After that came in my DD LPK came in...at least I thought. An accidental mixup with the seller meant I actually received someone else's order and they received mine. I informed the seller of my situation and he graciously covered 2-day shipping to get the parts kit to me. http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y29/btm7687/Weapons%20of%20Minor%20Destruction/AR-15%20Build/ddlpk.jpg Took about 45 minutes to put in...a lot easier than I though. For the bolt catch pin I taped the receiver and started the pin with a hammer. After that I wrapped the jaws of a visegrip with tape and pushed it in using half turn increments. When the pin got close I just finished it off with a punch. It went in like butter and only took about 2 minutes. Definitely the way to go since I have no damage around that area. The upper also ended up being delayed with shipping. It was coming from New York and unfortunately Irene just had different plans. Here is how the lower sits now...I'm waiting to put the ASAP on when I get the mil-spec buffer tube and put my CTR on. Hopefully beginning/mid next week I should have my upper/BCG/CH/buffer tube and be able to finally get it completed. Irons will be on order soon, but the friend I was going to visit said he had an Aimpoint we could have used. Unfortunately I couldn't get it done, but it's nice to know that it will be shortly. Told my friend I'd have to take another trip in couple weeks to be able to shoot the AR. http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y29/btm7687/Weapons%20of%20Minor%20Destruction/AR-15%20Build/basiclower2.jpg |
