| Greetings. I am relatively new to ARs, but mechanically inclined and been messing around with cars, guns (Garands, carbine, Springfields, Mauser 98, auto pistols, shotguns, etc.), and other mechanical things for over 30 years. I have had a WTB ad in the EE since April for a chrome-lined mid-length barrel, but no luck so far. I have thought about buying a stripped PSA barrel (on sale right now) and building my own. I want to install a standard A2 FSB. I understand the need for taper pins to secure the FSB, but I have heard that the barrel and/or FSB need to be drilled for proper installation. I would appreciate any clarification on this. Thanks for looking. |

The barrel and FSB are aligned and held in a jig during the drilling process. The holes are then taper reamed and taper pins are driven. The barrel and FSB become a unique set. Buy a barrel with the FSB already on it. I found a Wilson Arms SS, 16", mid gas, 1/8, Wylde, HBAR, A2 FH for $219 with barrel nut and FSB w/sight post assembly. |

Thanks for the replies. I was hoping I could do it myself, but now I completely understand the use of an assembly jig. I used to design assembly jigs for an electronics manufacturer years ago. I thought that the barrel might be pre-drilled / grooved on the bottom of the gas block area to simplify things, but I guess not. Oh well, the search continues.

It you're set on buying a plain barrel, one way to add an FSB is to use this.. Armalite Clamp-On A2 Front Sight (in stock at post time) Has sling lugs, but no bayo lug. Fits .750" gas block journal.
