So I thought I was set on buying an Eotech, probably a 512.  That is, until I went to the store and looked through some.  I had never looked through an Eotech before.  The reticle was not clear, it was fuzzy.  It was like there was a double image, with the reticle in the foreground and a lighter reticle shifted behind it.  Anyway all of their Eotechs looked like this and the gun store guy had no idea why.

I got home from the gun store and just can't believe this is how they are supposed to be.  So I was thinking, is there a protective film over the glass that should be removed after buying?  This film may have been why I was seeing the double image.

ALL EOtechs will be pixelated. This is due to the fact that it actually uses a laser, NOT an LED like many other red dot sights. Also, you have to look at the target, not the reticule. Looking at the reticule will make it even more pixelated. There should not be any double image at all. Do you buy any chance have astigmatism? But good on your part to actually look through the sight before you buy.

Did you try adjusting the power level down? When on too bright, the image tends to "bloom"

Previous 2 posters got it right.  This is an old and well covered "problem".  The sight is fine, you don't look at the 'dot' you look at your 'target' and the dot will appear over the target and not appear fuzzy at all.  Also, might have had it set too bright.  It takes a minute or two to learn how to look through it right, then once you do there is no problem.  If you would have turned on the sight, put the brightness down a tad, put it up into your fiield of view, and then focused on a "target" (person, wall, etc), all would have looked fine.  That is why red dots are fast on target, you don't look at the dot like you would a front site post.

Hmm.  Ok.  I will go back and try looking through it again.  I may have just been focusing on the eotech and not on the distant wall/target.  I new it would be pixelated, but it was the faded second image of the reticle that was shifted to the side a little that had me worried.

So can anyone tell me for sure that Eotechs dont have a clear protective film over the glass from the factory?

Thanks for all the responses!

I don't remember any of mine having any film.  But the posters above are correct.  Turn down the brightness and look thru the recticle, not at it.  Kinda like those 3d posters.  Both eyes open.

No protective film came on mine, but the reticule was a little pixelated and blurry til I put my glasses on and focused downrange Fixed the reticule problems!

Thanks for the help guys.  Looks like I just needed to focus on the target and not on the Eotech.  I'll try it next time I go into the store.
