So I bought an A2 upper, for stupid cheap. However it came at one cost, the end cap had rust, and the front sight post was rusted in. He told me the elevation was already sighted in and didn't need to be changed but...

How hard would it be to replace that end cap and front sight base? I've never really installed a FSB, but I'm assuming I can just punch the pins out, starting from the left side.

I think my biggest problem would be finding an FSB that has the same pin holes....

You reuse the original FSB and end cap after refinishing them. Then you know the pins will fit and everything will go back as it should.

you can buy a replacement end cap, but it's not so straight-forward to replace the FSB because the pin holes on that barrel & FSB are mated to each other for life.  the pin spacing and depth is not precision standardized to facilitate parts swapping.

Take the endcap and FSB off and drop into a bucket of kroll or PB blaster and let it soak overight, you should be able to get things freed up and cleaned up so you can make it operational again.
