Did the Edgewater spring guide/buffer have it's own special spring, or will any standard M16 spring work?

Are these ok to shoot with this set up, or should the Edgewater buffer be replaced with a newer buffer for range time?

The Edgewater buffer itself was replaced because of issues during full auto fire. I've never had any problems on semi.

I shot with mine once just to say I did but if I fire my 1964 SP1 now I pull it out and replace it with a regular buffer.

They have gotten to expensive to risk damaging them.

The Edgewaters were made to be shot.  They had a couple of hick-ups in a FEW full auto firing instances, so the military went to a cheaper, and even more reliable buffer.  There are Edgewaters out there that have had literally tens of thousands of rounds fired with them.  Mine have always worked flawlessly, and I have never heard of anyone having had a problem with theirs.  Has ANYONE on here heard of someone having a problem with THEIRS?  If so, what happened?

Any rifle I have that should have an Edgewater in it gets shot that way.
I may have replaced the one in my 01 a couple times for full-auto play, but that was more for experimentation than out of any concern. Even on full-auto, I generally run the Edgewater. (Admittedly, though, I don't shoot full auto a lot.)
