Exposed like on the LMT piston guns. Easier to change settings and to take out for cleaning. I'm not a fan of the long handguard with the cutout. Have trouble getting my DB in there.
On my one piston gun, I chose a rail that leaves about the front 40% of the block exposed, allowing easy access tot the plug and adjustments, but still mostly shrouded.
