What does it take to convert a 16 in govt profile M4A3 patrolmans carbine to a SBR w/ 10 in barrell?

Well first it takes a SBR permit and $$$$$. Beyond that, you just need a barrel with FSB attached. Most will come that way and I would go ahead and get the flash hider as well.

But, just a thought. You need to think carefully what you are going to do with this weapon. You're going to change a legit 300 yard gun into something less than 100 yards effective range. They look cool, but unless you're clearing buildings or protecting the house at night, they serve little purpose. And that little SBR permit gives the BATFE the right to inspect you any time their little pointy hearts desire.

That is pure BS. A C3 DEALER can have compliance inspections, but an INDIVIDUAL with a tax stamped weapon (SBR/MG/etc...) does not have to allow any inspections at all.

Go to the Arms & Tactics section and look under the Class 3 Firearms section. You will find all the info you need. Here is a link.

+1 I've been a class 3 weapons owner since 1965, and never had even a letter from BATF, much less an attempt at inspection.

Because the quicker we stamp out this BS, the more people will become interested in owning machine guns.  Then they'll see how much the market has been distorted by the 1986 machine gun ban and be interested in getting it repealed or overturned.  If we can get the ban struck down, then we can all stop paying 10X market value for 21+ year old weapons.

Not to mention hopefully motiviate some people to go piss on Tip O'Neill's grave.
