I am a first time builder and have a question before I spend the kind of money that I am looking to spend.
I want to purchase the Fortis REV MID cut-out rail, 12.49". I will not be putting in a piston system, instead I want to put in a Yankee Hill front flip sight, standard without bayonet lug or sling swivel (YHM-9396). I have a 16" fluted mid length gas port barrel. My question to anyone who might have knowledge about this is whether or not the Yankee Hill sight will fit into the cut-out on the rail and line up with the gas port. I would hate to spend that kind of money to find out that it doesn't even work. Any help is appreciated! Not the exact answer you want, but I can tell you that I just put together an upper with Moe handguard and YHM folding front sight/gas block. What I can tell you is that the front sight post does not go past the end of the gas block when folded down. That would mean that as long as the Fortis rail cutout doesn't go forward the shoulder on the barrel for the gas block that it would fit. Now since this rail is designed for a fixed F-type front sight this should work fine. As far as alignment goes the only thing you will have to remember is when you assemble the gas block that you will need to space the YHM gasblock off the shoulder by about 1/16" to make sure the gas hole in the barrel lines up with the hole in the gas block ( Since you will not be using the handguard ring that you would normally use for a standard handguard)
You will need to try to find the inside diameter of the Fortis rail because the Yhm clamp on front sight is wider at the base than a standard front sight. You will want to make sure there is enough room. |
