I have a blue label carbine, sporter, from the 90s, I have the half moon colt bolt carrier in it due to the block in the lower. Since it has a 16" barrel should I be running a H buffer or heavier to avoid over gassing.  I figure the bolt carrier is lighter so maybe a H2 buffer?

You should be more focused on timing other than gassing

I would run a standard buffer to test it out first. If the carrier doesn't lock on the last round or moves too fast to strip the next round from the mag then I'd look into buffer weights.

Does it work as is? If so, I would leave it alone.

I also have a Colt Sporter with the half moon BCG, mine is a 20 inch HBAR. I just run it the way Colt sent it and I have not had any issues.

Use a quality, new spring and retain the standard buffer.

I came to post exactly this. My MT6601 has run fine from the day I bought it back in 1996.

Did any of your Colts come with the plastic Colt rifle buffer that Colt was installing as OEM for a time?

It runs perfect with either the std or "H" buffer.  I just thought that since the 16" barrels tend to be over gassed a heavier buffer might be a better idea?
