Iknow this is old hat for most of you,but I'm still confused about the different size pivot pins that Colts have.What are the different sizes?I know one is small,and one larger than normal for other manufactors.Try ti explain this to me one more time,please! Lonestarwj

Lone, here is the short version.  Colt, in its infinite wisdom decided not to follow mil-spec for its civilian rifles.  Mil-spec fire control pins (trigger and hammer) are .154 in diameter.  Older Colts use this size.  Newer models used a larger pin size of .173, thus, the parts between the different models are often not interchangeable.  To make matters worse, Colt chose to use a large front, two-screw pivot pin (.312) in many of their models, while the mil-spec size is always .250 and a push pin with a detent.  Hence, when you see ads on the board for lowers and complete rifles you will usually see the seller refer to "large pivot", "large fire control", etc., in order to let the buyer know what he is getting.  The negatives associated with the different sizes are mostly loss of flexibility and interchangeability.  Parts for any size are readily obtainable from many sources.  Adapter pins and bushings are also easily found for mating the different sizes of pivots on uppers and lowers.
