I've been considering a Colt AR-style rifle, but with a configuration leaning towards a balance of accuracy/weight/size. I was looking at the AR6721 due to its heavier barrel and 1-9 twist (I've got a lot of 45gr ammo that I want it to shoot, and thought 1-9 would be good for everything between 40gr and 62gr). I asked the local dealer about getting one, and he said he'd look into it. Next thing I know I get a call that my rifle is in (?!?). Didn't realized that I had ordered one, but what the heck... The LGS and I have a good relationship, and I guess he figured if I didn't want it he could resell it, anyway. However, the price was right so I took it home ($835).
Any good/bad/ugly/must replace parts or issues I need to consider (now that I've already bought it...!!!) Also, to appease the wife I'd like to put a less-menacing standard A2 rifle stock on it - any issues with that? Will I need to replace the buffer/tube? Any help would be appreciated. Beuford |

I'd just go with one of the heavier adjustable stocks to keep it balanced. Still doesn't solve the wife problem... I'm trying to make it look less like an "assault" weapon. Other than the barrel, what are the differences between the LE6920 and the AR6721? I'm very confused over all the Colt numbers, particularly since so many of the rifles look very similar. Beuford |

Are you serious? Your wife is scared of a gun based on what the stock looks like? ![]() ![]() Not scared - annoyed. If it looks like something Schwarzenegger carried in a movie, then it's too "assault weapon" for her. And since she funds my collection... you do the math. Besides, I like the A2 stock. The wife is part of an excuse to buy one. Beuford |
| Just put the adjustable stock on the shelf, and after you take her shooting and she comes to enjoy shooting it won't be so "assault weapon-like" to her. It's up to you to warm her up to it and debunk the liberal views that give the AR15's such a ooooh-so-scary factor. Now you got me wanting a 6721! |

Beuford What? Seriously? You should probably sit down and have a rational conversation with her about that. |

What? Seriously?
You should probably sit down and have a rational conversation with her about that. You're kidding, right? My wife doesn't make me go to cooking classes or dog training with her, and doesn't mind that I spend much of my free time at the range or the LGS. She's pulling in most of the cash while I attend graduate school, pays the bills, and lets me spend any funds I can gather from my graduate work on pretty much anything I want - including toys that go "bang". She's an ardent supporter of gun rights (she'll tell you it's the criminals that are the problem), but she also understands that it's not always prudent to wear that patch on your sleeve when wandering around Liberalville. If all she asks is that my toys don't look like something she would have to explain to her friends while I'm reassembling them on the kitchen island, I'm good with that. Plus, she's the love of my life (25+ years and counting). If only everyone could be as lucky. Now, could someone please tell me about retrofitting an A2 stock to this rifle? Beuford |

Now, could someone please tell me about retrofitting an A2 stock to this rifle? Beuford, if you have tools and a soft jaw vice insert ( these can be gotten at HomeDepot/Lowes if not ) it's as easy as pie. You will need to buy a new rifle buffer tube, rifle spring and buffer along with the stock. These are usually sold as a set, so no problems there. A2 type stocks screw on, the M4 tele stock is also staked to hold the castle nut. The only tricky part is pulling off that staked castle nut. They can sometimes be a pita. Here's a YT video on how to do it. https://youtu.be/IIEJwPCwmX8 Here's a video of a guy putting the A2 stock to an unassembled lower. https://youtu.be/FyTfkd157e8 |

Very helpful, and much easier than I expected. I'm new to AR's, so please forgive my ignorance. So it seems that the "carbine" recoil buffer isn't because it's a carbine-length barrel, but because it has a short recoil buffer space due to the collapsing stock. If I put a rifle butt on, then a rifle buffer tube is appropriate. So the obvious question is: Why don't they design all stocks to use the same, short recoil buffer as the carbine? Why bother with a short one for the carbine and a long one for the rifle? Anyway, thank you very much for the video links. Beuford |

Lol! That factory stock does appear menacing. Probably on purpose Another alternative is to use the Magpul OEM style collapsible stock and grip. They're less aggressive looking (softer edges) and the stock still allows for adjustment. It even tones down the SOCOM version. Colt make an Magpul LE6920 for ref. |
|
Keep the rifle and loose or educate the wife!!!!!! A stock doesn't make any rifle an "assault rifle" , God I hate that term!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Seriously though, the new Hogue overmoulded stock is hands down the best stock I have ever used on any AR. I normally prefer an A2 on my rifles but am switching all my Carbines over to the Hogue, best part is they cost far less than the Magpul stocks.
As for your rifle, I too have the same rifle and it will be with me forever, one of the most accurate AR's that I have ever shot. I just need to get my barrel threaded for a comp. NCH |

You're kidding, right? I am most certainly not. While I understand your situation as you have laid it out, I don't think that your problem is a technical one, and I don't believe that changing the stock is the solution. You seem like the type to choose appeasement, and I don't agree. Let's all do away with our flash hiders, collapsible stocks, and bayonet lugs, lest we scare or offend someone. No, thank you. This is just my opinion, of course, and they're like... well, you know the saying. Let if roll off of your back if you so wish. |

Just put pink stocks on it. That would probably work - I just don't think I could take the laughter at the range. Beuford If you're open to colors other than black, you can get M4 carbine furniture in yellow, blue, red, green, tan, purple or pink. It would be a lot easier to swap the furniture than put another stock on it and the wife would probably find it much prettier. |
Hey OP.....No problemo ! Colt 6721LE with A2 stock set-up is the shizzle ! Mine came with the flimsey Lily Po tele-stock, and it was just eeeehh ! Slapped on an A2 lower and - BOOM ! - instant woodie ! The cleaning kit stuffed into the butt stock gives her great balance. I was quick to change her out from that point onward, and have never regretted it. Used the ALUM. RE spacer and the ALUM. back door for a bit of extra weight. Also kept the Colt carry handle, but replaced the gigantic knobs with better looking hardware. Mine is an older piece with the "extra evil" LE markings and .170 pins. She also came with Carbine handies, which got replaced quick with factory M4 wide ovals. Added a MIAD too. With this set-up, the 6721LE takes on a special "feel".........Like you could go out and conquer half the world by yourself !

GD= General Discussion. It's another sub-forum here on the site. OP= Original Poster. The person that started the thread. You, in this case. ETA: Also, if you must add a fixed stock, the Magpul fixed carbine stock would be your best solution in my opinion. You don't have to remove any existing hardware (except the stock body, of course). I got my 6721 in '07 when they were priced higher - you got a great price. I like the small-diameter hand guards so I kept them. I have an EOTech red-dot and an ARMS folding back-up sight (the old all-metal one) on it, both zeroed at 50 yds. I also had ADCO shorten the barrel and permanently attach the flash hider for 16" total. It feels lighter up front and is faster handling. These are wonderful carbines and largely overlooked. http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/bb27/INLAND44/Guns/DSC01101.jpg Nice rifle. |
