Looking at the website and various "reviews", it is unclear to me what the different models are beyond the sights or MOE furniture and very basic information. CAR816 versus the 814 and Versus? Is it basically just superficial cosmetics? Is there a reason to prefer one over the other? Where do these rifles stand out and shine above other ~$1500 AR-15's? Or is it just good marketing with the developers being former HK416/Sig516 designers? Do these even compare to the SIG Spear-LT or HK416 in terms of function and performance? Both are over $1,000 more to purchase as well. Do the Carcal rifles have proprietary parts that are a concern for a rifle being shot a lot (i.e., not a safe queen)? TIA, Sid |

The 814 is actually a traditional AR-15 Gas system The 816 is supposed to be quite similar to the other stuff you mentioned. One short coming is the barrels are generic US commercial barrels. Spare parts seems to be an unfortunate short coming. There aren't any and some parts are proprietary like the piston and carrier.. I'm curious if an 816 can run a standard bolt and cam / firing pin like a T91 will. |
