Went to the range with my buddy and both of us had our ar's. His AR is having the problems. Its a bushmaster patrolmans carbine. 16inch M4 style upper Just like mine. It loads a round fires and then the hammer falls and nothing. The bolt carrier does not seat. Use the forward assist and it doesn't help. Had to remove both upper and lower receivers to get it apart. Had to use a hammer and Flat head screw driver to remove bolt carrier. Live round comes out. Took it apart and it blew a gas ring. This has happened three times. I don't know what type of ammo he was using. Any help would be of great appreciation

First, i would check to make sure there is no carbon build-up at the back or the carrier bore that would pervent the bolt from traveling all the way back freely. Then, i would check the carrier bore for any gouging. Also, when you intsall the new rings on the bolt, apply a coat of oil and push bolt into carrier, then turn the carrier, bolt down, and give it a slight shake, if the bolt falls out, you may have a worn out carrier or bolt.  Then, look at the two little holes on the side of the carrier to make sure they are not plugged (they relieve pressure in the carrier bore after bolt is extended). I suspect carbon, but i'm not looking at it.

Every once in a while, you can blow a primer and a small piece of it will find it's way back into the section to cause the problem at hand.

Also, when the B/C-rings are new, it's possible to catch a ring on the lip of the beginning of the carrier gas section, causing it to bend (if the rings have not seated in the bolt  yet, and still edge sharp/bur’d from when the rings are production stamping).

Lastly, again on new carriers, the Key bolt threaded channel can have an inside end bur that will catch the ring and do some damage.

Bottom line is check the inside of the carrier gas section for a bur at the thread channel, and if needed, on the new set of gas rings, debur the bottom stamped edge to prevent it from catching during B/C assembly.

Sorry for the long wait on getting the answer to you guys. but the above post was right on about the bur. I would have never have looked for that and we cleaned it replaced the gas rings and still the same thing. So he contacted bushmaster and they were awesome. They got the gun told him what the problem was and replaced the bolt carrier and bolt. Great customer service. Thanks for the replies.
