The predator looks like a good set up except for the 1-8 twist. I'd rather have the 1-9  twist so I can use more of a variety of bullets. Bushmaster states the faster twist is for the heavier bullets that can be used for coyotes. The only heavy bullet that I have found that may be used for coyotes is the Sierra 65 grain Gameking. I believe Sierra made this bullet in response to the 22 centerfire being legalized for deer hunting in Missouri. I've tried to get a hold of Sierra to ask that question but keep being put on hold (I have a time limitation when calling from work). The only other bullets are the match grade 69's from sierra and 68's from Hornady. There are heavier bullets for the 1-8 twist but can't be loaded to mag length. Single shot automatic? I've seen coyotes dropped with 55gr varmint bullets but the ranges tended to be short. Bushmaster has a good idea, maybe the bullet manufactures need to make hunting bullets in the 65-70gr range.

I like the rifle myself  1/8 twist is good for 45gr to 77gr +

My LMT M4`s have  a 14.5 1/7 twist

And shoot WINCHESTER 45gr HP JUST FINE  I get better groups than  some M193/M855

My 20inch bushmaster Prone @ 100yards made a nice ragged hole useing Federal 69gr BTHP

The Predartor would make for a GREAT SPR with some extras

I was just needing info as to the reliability and accuracy of the Predator. Thanks for the reply though! As far as bullet weight and barrel twist, the 1-8 is a fantastic all around twist rate. Ive found it will stabilize and shoot well about any bullet from 50 to 77 grain bullets. (You CAN load 77 Match King's magazine length). Mater of fact this is a very popular round that is fired in rapid fire in NRA competition.
The 1-8 is about the most popular twist out there for competition NRA across the course shooting. I feel it is also perfect for just about anything.

I have a Bushmaster A2 20" barrel model that I just installed the varminter float tube. At 100 yards the group size got alot smaller but at 200 yards there was no difference. I blame that on 50 year-old eyes and iron sights. I have an extra flat-top receiver and would like to put together a predator model but with the 20" barrel I already have, which is a 1-8 twist. I have everything but the milled front sight and really don't want to mill down the sight I have. Bushmaster tells me the mil-spec front sights are matched to the barrel it comes with which is drilled and pinned. They sell a milled front sight that comes with the varminter model that is held on with set screws. It's not listed in the catalog. It sells for around $35 and it has to be called in. I've talked to a few high power shooters that mount a scope on the handle. They do this to check the accuarcy of their loads. I just got a handle scope mount from Midway and could do the same until I decide on a gas block. Now if it would only stop this freezing rain crap. I rate Bushmaster as one of the best. I only live an hour away from RockRiverArms and Armalite but prefer keeping my Bushmaster all Bushmaster.

Yep... the Bushmaster is a fine gun. Ive owned Armalite and Bushmaster lowers and one Bushmaster A2 Shorty. The Shorty with a handle mounted scope would shoot MOA (and at times below MOA). I'm thinking serious about the Predator.
