I'm thinking of getting a precision barrel for one of my ARs for paper punching. Is a new head spaced bolt critical to accuracy? Or can I head space my old one? Just trying to figure out what it takes to make an accurate AR. It can't be as easy as just bolting on a barrel. Or can it?
What I'm looking for is a gun that can shoot the 69 SMKs a lot better than the setup I have now. Looking for a barrel with a 1:9 twist in a 16 to 20 inch length. Probably never shoot longer than 300 yards. Any help would be appreciated. |

It is basically the barrel.
Your BCG or Bolt will not effect accuracy at all... just make sure it is headspaced correct... although for a new build especially a nice precision build id get a new BCG for it... just because. But anyways accuracy is going to be your barrel. And using the proper torque. and then its going to be your trigger. and then its going to be your skill. ETA. Unless you are a WORLD CLASS shooter personal skill level-wise... things like the BCG, play between the upper and lower, fractions of an millimeter tolerance stacking.. will never matter. |

My confusion started when I sent a 308 DPMS upper to Krieger and they wanted my bolt to match to their barrel. Got me to thinking there must be something to it. And I didn't want to spend the money for tools to do one barrel swap.
The bolt in my 223 gun has less than 500 rounds through it. Thanks for the info. Now to find a good barrel. I'm not afraid to spend a little money on a good barrel. I just wanted to know if a good barrel is all I needed. |
