EA lower RRA lpk A2 buttstock M&A parts E2 20" upper w/ free float tube (in stock right now!) Burris PEPR Mueller APV 4.5x14 One more to go. I'm just trying to find a 20" or 24" bull barrel upper somewhere. Does the front sight mess up what you see ( or don't see ) through the scope ? Or is it above it ? Scope looks a little too far forward ? What brand and model is the mount ? How much do they cost ? I have always used a 1" riser on a flat top and regular rings for a conventional scope . However , I put a " holo sight " on a flat top and was able to do away with the 1" riser . But it has no front sight ot try to " see " over . God bless Wyr |

Maxicon's breakdown of One Piece Mounts is a good place to compare mounts.
Mounting a scope on an AR can be complicated. My dad wanted to be able to use iron sights and he liked the standard forged front sight base. So I had to use a relatively high mount to clear the front sight. Pushing the scope forward accomplishes two things. You get more natural eye relief and you can squeeze a flip up buis in there. The Burris PEPR is a good compromise on price and features at $70. The Larue mounts are the most recommended here, but they run close to $200. |

I'll add a +1 to the Burris PEPR mount.
I've got it on my own SPR build (sorry, no pics yet) and on my 6.8 SPC Mid Carbine (pics below). Both have taken a lot of rounds, and no loosening or drift. I've even taken them on and off, and they hold zero @ 200 within 1/2 usually. (maybe its my shooting!) I find the PEPR for both scopes to be right about where I want to be looking, and where I would be looking through my BUIS. Especially with the A1 stock on my SPR, the height isn't too much, and it feels to be really natural when I shoulder the firearm to be looking right down the middle of both scopes. Good looking build! I might recommend a flip up front gas block, like YHM makes so you can decide if you want them up or down, so it won't get in the way of the scopes sight picture. As an FYI, the standard MI flip up BUIS doesn't clear the back of my scope with this mount. I'm looking to get a low profile ARMS or MI to fit. http://img190.imageshack.us/img190/4813/img6309o.jpg http://img266.imageshack.us/img266/6117/img6304p.jpg |

Seems solid so far. It's heavy. (which was what I wanted.)
More importantly, they have them in stock and for pre-obama prices. The upper is roll-marked from Cardinal Forge who supply forgings to RRA and LMT among others. So far, I've built two rifles with M&A uppers and I'm very satisfied. (I've only got 100 rounds downrange through both.) |
