The ar-15.com lower receiver build guide instructed me to install the pivot pen. Later when I received my upper receiver assembly, I realized that I couldn't assemble the upper to the lower because of the pivot pin being already installed. I assume that I'll have to uninstall it, but It looks like that's a real bear of a problem. Any suggestions???

The pin will move to the right in the lower receiver.  Just give it a little tap from the left side to get it started.

The front and rear pivot pins when installed correctly with the retainer detents, will slide over so you can install and remove the upper receiver.  the detent retainers just keep the pins from being pushed all the way out of the receiver instead; hence not from being drifted over to allow the upper to be installed or removed from the lower receiver.

This has got to be some kind of stupid joke.  If one is seriously so completely ignorant of the AR platform then one has no business building an AR, and the FIRST thing such a person should do is go to the local gun shop or find a friend that has ARs and get some lessons on how to maintain them, clean them, work them, and shoot them.  If you seriously have no idea, even after building your lower, of the function of something so fundamental as a pivot pin and take down pin then you are indeed a lost ball in high weeds in need of some serious education.  If the pivot pin has you so utterly stumped then I shudder to think what is going to happen when you need to manipulate the trigger, selector, and bolt catch.  Seriously, get some education before going to the range to live fire your weapon.

Honestly I was not trying to be harsh or super critical, but ASSUMING the OP was serious then he is in way over his head and that is not a good place to be when operating any type of firearm, especially if one is building that firearm.
I really was not being flippant about getting educated.  If one is going to build, maintain, or otherwise operate any type of device then one should be educated on the generalized mechanical workings of that device, be it a drill motor, pipe threaded, or rifle.  To blindly operate a device that can hurt or kill you (or others) is just asking for it if you have no idea what you are doing.
As far as saying he is ignorant, that only means that he is not knowledgeable about that particular subject, not that he is generally stupid, only ignorant.  Lord knows I am totally ignorant of many things, but smart enough to know that when it comes to working on things I am ignorant about to either let someone else do the work or educate myself before doing the work.  Everyone, no matter how smart they may be, is ignorant about a given subject until they are educated about it.  Totally no insult intended.
