I am building my first rifle length upper and need direction recommendations on the buffer/ tube/ spring set up using the following items:
Barrel= Green Mountain 18" rifle length fluted .750 gas block Upper= Vltor MUR Handguard= BCM KMR 15" BCG= undecided at this time Muzzle brake= Spikes Tactical Dynacomp Extreme Lower =80% arms Stock= Mission First Battlelink Misc items= JP reduced power spring kit using mil-spec trigger mods, Hogue or Ergo ambi grip, Appreciate the help and advise as I have all the parts waiting on my build other than the BCG, charge handle, and buffer assembly. |
| An 18in with rifle gas should be a pretty soft shooter. I would start with a standard weight spring and buffer. If for some reason you feel the need to go heavier after that then you can. Buffer weight is pretty much specific to individual rifles and ammo combinations. Hard to predict until you actually shoot it. Start with standard. No reason to overthink it until it has a couple hundred rounds through it. |

Pick a regular 'ol BCG (maybe from AIM Surplus) and if you are feeling frisky you can do Hellbender's BCG Slickum mods (Google it) and you will know a whole lot more about BCGs than you do right now.
Use a carbine spring and carbine buffer, just so you can get a feel for baseline. Once you have a better idea about what is going on and how the system works you can tinker around with buffers and springs if you like. |
