I guess no one in the Build It Yourself forum knows the answer. I have assembled my first AR.
CMMG Lower RRA LPK CAA Collapsible Stock 20" Gov. Profile 1/7 Bushmaster upper Standard FSB Matech BUIS I took it to the range Saturday, and the rifle would fire and eject the spent case, but not feed the next round. The buffer spring seems too stiff , even making the charging handle harder to pull than my buddies 16" Middy w/ Bravo Company spring and buffer. And the end of my spring is too small to seat the buffer properly (See pic below). Is a Carbine spring and buffer too tight for a rifle gas system? PK has a "rifle" spring and a "rifle" buffer, will these fit in the CAA collapsible stock and is this what I need to solve my problem? http://inlinethumb16.webshots.com/44367/2731585910068895752S600x600Q85.jpg http://inlinethumb62.webshots.com/42877/2153536920068895752S600x600Q85.jpg |

OK, I had a similar problem, ONLY it was with my Bushmaster Patrolman's Carbine.
Problem: I purchased the RRA 9mm buffer to "reduce felt recoil". Started effin up. Solution: Put my regular carbine buffer back in and vuala! Fixed. Put the 9mm buffer in my Remington R-15 with the collapsible stock, no problems at all. That's my two cents because it looks like you are running the heavier buffer, worth a try. |

The last coil is too small to seat on the buffer, thats why its not seated. Any downsides to clipping the last coil and giving it a shot? Is the "rifle" spring the same length as the "carbine"? If you can't get the spring to seat, get another spring, I wouldn't clip it. Have you tried the other end of the spring? |

I will order a new spring right now if someone can help me with which one. Will a rifle spring fit in a collapsible stock? or will a carbine spring from a more reputable company and with correct ends work once the buffer gets seated correctly? |

Looks normal. - you need to force the end of the spring over the "hub". turn the spring while pushing onto the buffer |

Rifle spring will not work in carbine extension. You said you got the spring from Bravo, I would call them, they will take care of you. ETA: Bravo is a reputable mfr, but if you want to try somewhere else I would suggest PKs. |

Tried twisting, it just pops back off once i let go. That doesn't make sense. From the picture, the "hub" is more than wide enough for the last 2 coils on the spring to seat on, you need to push the spring completely on untill it sits flush against the head of the buffer. |

No, my spring came with a CAA stock I bought at a gun show. My friend was the smart one and bought his from Bravo. Ah, I see now after re-reading. In that case, I would first try your buddies Bravo spring with your buffer and if it works, buy a new spring from Bravo or PKs. |

Sorry for a crappy picture, but its not going anywhere. I'm sitting here trying in between posts. I've tried everything including srewdrivers and pliers. Its an F'ed up spring. My buddies spring fits perfectly. |

what brand is that buffer? just curios because it looks very dark. It also came with the CAA stock bought at a gun show. This is my first AR and yes I see the error of my ways. Loose parts in ziploc bags at gun shows = bad I bought a full CAA stock kit last year and it came with a gold colored carbine buffer. The buffer you have did not come with that stock. |

Go to BROWNELLS and order a CAR-15/M4 Std Weight Reliability Kit # 943-000-018AB . This is a spring I put in my Carbine (Collapsible stock) and it works good. I Have the same stock on my ar. $23 for a spring? No thanks, I just put in my order at PK. Got a spring, a new buffer to experiment with, and a couple cleaning brushes for $21. Thanks everyone for your help. |
