I'm trying to fine tune my Superior Shooting System buffer spring to shoot correctly in my 16" AR with an ACE rifle stock . In order for the gun to strip rounds from the mag and eject correctly after firing I've had to remove 7 coils from the spring. The ejected cases are landing about 5-6 feet away.
The bolt will not lock back after the last round is fired but I can pull the charging handle back and it will lock back fine with the magazine still inserted. Sounds to me the spring is still too strong and is not being compressed enough to lock back.

Think I could safely remove another coil or two to solve the problem? Has anybody run into this before with their SSS buffer spring?

I'm not familiar with their springs, so I don't know if trimming is common.  Did the rifle function correctly before the spring was intalled?

Yes. Worked perfectly with the full size ACE stock and spring. No problem until I replaced the standard spring with the SSS buffer spring.

Sounds to me like the spring is too long and stacking up, not allowing the carrier assy to go back all the way.  I once put an A1 stock on my AR.  I reused the the long bolt (A2) in the rear to hold the stock on to the buffer tube instead of the short bolt.  It stuck out into the buffer tube and caused the same problem your having.

Ive dissasembled a few buffers in my day and never found a spring inside.  Do you mean the Action Spring?

If you look at the maintenance manual you will find the min and max length of both the carbine and rifle length action springs
