Pretty much off the shelf RRA LAR15.  YHM quad rail.  Anyway, I see all these shots of these awesome looking, clean weapons.  Mine however has streaks on the brass deflector where obviously spent casings are hitting.  Is this normal?  If not normal, what can be done to stop it?  Preferably without taking it to the gun shop, where all the rest of my money goes.

This is my first AR type weapon, so not real familiar with the workings.  Read the field manual that came with it, but it says nothing about this problem in the troubleshooting section.

Completely normal.

Most of the brass marks will rub off with a drop of CLP and a rag if you want to remove them.

Read somewhere on here to get a piece of black velcro w/adhesive backing, cut to size and stick the fuzzy sided piece on the deflector.  Sounds good to me, I'm going to try it.

a piece of black electrical tape about the size of a dime does the trick, and will last for years.

Normal. It's a tool, use it.

But that's not as high speed/low drag (really Art-Deco) as the Velcro fuzzy Piece. Plus if pushed to answer why you stuck it on the defector in the first place, instead of telling someone that you are really anal about marks on your new rifle, you tell them that it's a spent case ejection silencer.
