At minimum I keep a complete bolt.

The only thing I've ever had break on me was the cotter pin (firing pin retainer).

However, I keep lots of spare parts for everything I own.

Parts are gooooood.

firing pin, firing pin retainer, and thats about it for me. I also keep a few spare front sight posts because I can not stand a bent up or dinged front sight post. I started doing that in the Army because all the M16's had bad front sights on them. Never could get the armorer to replace them either.

What DM1975 said is a good idea if your in a pinch, keep a whole bolt assy. I have broken extractors and gas rings. Also oddly enough I have worn out a firing pin. A broken extractor pin can make your day go bad real quick too.

heres what I keep for my 4 rifles and growing

bolt cam pins
firing pins
firing pin retaining pin
gas rings
hammer springs
take down pins detents and springs
saftey
saftey detent
ejector w/ spring and spring pins
buttstock screws
front sight posts and rear sight apretures
gastube
bolt carrier key and screws
recoil springs
hammer/ trigger pins
extractors
dust cover spring and lots of "c" clips
bolt catch
spring pins for every part that is retained by one

I've worked on these rifles a lot and have found that these parts either wear out or are lost easily or can break during a unlucky fall or something.

I'm not too worried about something breaking in the field.  Even though I use them at the range, I don't think I need to worry about a personal AR wearing out.  Having said that, I keep spares of all the springs and pins since I often lose them when cleaning or just fooling around changing configurations and stuff.
