Need to buy a set of BUIS for my DD V7.  Don't have the budget for on optic at this time but do plan on getting one.  Thinking of either

1.  Daniel Defense fixed front/rear
2. Magpul MBUS Pro
3. Troy front rear ( yeah I know,, FT)

Any thoughts on these or other suggestions?

Thanks!

I have the Magpul MBUS and they work good enough for me plus easier to buy than the others.

I have the MBUS Pros on a couple guns. They're good to go.

Troy - bombproof, reliable, and the HK style front is my personal favorite.

If you want to go outside those choices consider Primary Reflex and Samson (they used to make Troy's sights before they had a falling out a few years back)

I put mbus pro's on my ddm4v7 that i recently acquired. I like them, low profile, light weight and easy to adjust

My first thought was Troy as well, but $200 for them vs $170 for the MBUS Pros has me thinking otherwise.... now if there are some on sale, that's different
The DD set would be the least expensive and would keep it "all in the house".   Hard to pick

Are the adjustments solid?  I like the idea of the way they adjust but am concerned about them being too easy to move

I have both the DD set and the Mbus Pros. I personally like the DD fixed front and a Pro for the rear. It depends on what type of optic you're looking for, though.

Politics aside, Troy's folding sights got damaged and had POI shift in a comparison test in which Magpul's MBUS did not.

Troy locks in the upright position.  It is forced to absorb impact, bending or breaking.  Magpul's MBUS and all steel MBUS Pro deflect when hit, transfering the force and saving the sight.  KAC folding sights, probably the best, but twice as expensive, are also designed to deflect.

I have both Magpul MBUS and MBUS Pro and like them both, preferring the Pro where the sight needs to be slimmer and lower when folded.

Yes, the adjustments are solid.  Not going to accidentally move once sighted in.

So the Pros do not lock in the "up" position?

They do not lock when deployed.  There is a strong detent, but they will deflect back down if struck.

Midway USA has Troy sets for $180, and even at $200 they are worth every penny.

You can get Magpul Pro's for around $140-$150 if you shop around.  They are smaller, stronger, and lighter than the Troy's.

To spend a lot on iron sights because you don't want to drop more on an optic, oldest story in the book.

I say get the Magpul MBUS gen2 ones. Save the money and buy a better optic later.

I'm with this guy. Buy the cheaper Magpuls for now and put the $$ you save towards the Aimpoint.

I rarely use my BUIS, so I just went with MBUS. Cheap, light, and they work just fine. That'll also save you some money that you can put towards the optic.

Ive tried the various b.u.s. including Troy, Magpul, LWRC and my absolute favorite sight is still the GG&G MAD.  Its a simple low profile adjustable sight.  My main complaints about the Troys were the sight always caught some light reflection and the silhouette was very distracting.  I cant really describe why, I can use the carry handle sight and other b.u.s. but the Troys just always bothered me.  The LWRC Skirmish are very good as well in fact Id probably say that they were my number one until I tried the GG&G MAD.

I think he says this because the red dot is not magnified then it does not matter if the fixed sights are in the view and if you are using the fixed sights the front will not be magnified through the optic. However if your optic is magnified you need sights that will fold down out of the way and not become magnified through your scope.

I have DD fixed on my main rifle.  It currently has an Aimpoint Comp m2 on it.  It has been my favorite setup for awhile now.

The optic doesn't get in the way of the irons when I want to use them and the irons don't get in the way of the dot.

Of those I would go DD for fixed, Magpul for folding. If you are open to suggestions, the Rainier Arms BUIS are awesome. There may be a set in the EE for about the same price as the Troys.

Absolutely correct. the MBUS sights bend, but don't break. Similarly, the MBUS PROs do not lock in the up position which I prefer....if they are struck they are more likely to fold than to bend/break.

I agree. Earlier in the thread I mentioned I have two sets of the MBUS PRO sights. I should have pointed out that I used them where rail space was minimal and I needed the lower profile/length for them to fit. All my other ARs have the plastic MBUS Gen 2 sights and I've never had a problem with those either.

My vote if for DD for fixed, and MP Pro's for ANY optic/RDS. I dislike how "busy" optics get with 1/3 rear iron in the picture. I run DD for irons only, and MP Pro for any optic/RDS.
