| Just wondering if anyone has tried out the Monarch .223 ammo from Academy Sports? Its brass cased FMJ, just wondering if anyone has some review or feedback on it? |

Made by Prvi Partisan in Serbia (same as the Wolf Gold .223). I nabbed up a bit of it when it was still 3.86 a box, and it works well. Unfortunately there must be another ARFCOMer in the Augusta area, because they always seem to be out of it. Of course the price did go up from 3.86 to 6 something in the past few months... |

It's covered in the ammo reviews tacked at the top of the forum. I've had great success with it; it's also been quite accurate for me. Unfortunately, Academy insists on pricing it in the "stupid" range (almost $8 a box?!?!), so I don't shoot a lot of it. When it was $3.86 a box, it was the schmitz! |
| Thanks guys...I picked some up and plan on testing it in my 20" A2 Bushmaster at the range tomorrow. I'll let you know my results. I'll try it in several mags and mixed with other known good ammo to see what happens. I've heard some have had extraction issues and am curious. |
They had the new price tag ($6.86 I think) on there when I was there last week. I do like the steel cased 7.62x39 for $3.86 a box though! |
+1 Same at the Academy's in College Station. The ONLY thing this ammo has going for it right now is that the local store has a case of it. But at 7.67 a box, I'm not going for it. Shit, $415.14 OTD for a thousand rounds of Wolf quality ammo. NEXT! |

Was there any in those racks in the middle of the isle? I thought I saw a price tag down there that was $3.99.
Any chance you've been to champions recently? I'm toying with getting a SKS as a plinker. |

I'd venture to say that 90% of what has gone through my rifle has been the steel cased Monarch, and I've had nary but one ammo related problem. |
| Well my 20" Bushmaster A2 doesn't like the Monarch Green Box brass cased .223...it failed to feed every other round requiring me to manually cycle it...very frustrating when the Federal XM193 worked flawlessly in every mag I had. Just can't use the stuff. Now my Ak 47 loves the cheapo $3.98 Monarch steel cased 7.62x39 and goes all day without a problem so its not all that bad. Now to find some alternative that works well in my AR as its getting hard to find XM193 and other high quality .223. |
| works excellent in all my rifles, bought out every green box in macon every chance i had when it was 3.86 abox, they have lost there minds with the price increase. it stays overflowing on the selves now. the older guys behind the gun counter told me it was going to iraq and that was what jumped the price, whatever!! |
Bought as much as I could before the price increase , which at the time I did not know there was going to be and increase. Now its $6.86 vs $3.86.  What I did shoot it functioned just fine.

| i purchaced all that my local academy had about a week ago.im not sure of other stores but mine is getting in blue box .223 55gr FMJ @$4.86(shelf says $7.86 but its been ringing up on sale i guess).i have not seen the green box in a while.this new stuff is great tho.its sealed at the crimp of the bullet and the primer and i had no malfunctions at all. |
Well at that price I no longer feel bad about paying $7.95 for a box of 20 XM193. Guess I'l check and see if my friend still has anymore of it left. Also we are getting 2 Academy stores here later in the year and I wonder if the ammo will be on sale during their grand opening. Anyone ever been to a grand opening of an Academy store. |

At the Academy near my range today they had several cases of both blue box .223 and blue box 7.62, and I picked up 10 of each (all the cash I had on me). I'm sure I could have just picked up a case and gone to the register. Tonight a friend who's unfortunately selling his 22 acres told me he's going to be up there mowing tomorrow, so come on up and shoot. So I scooted on over to the (different) Academy near my house and they told me they had a limit of 5 boxes of blue box per customer(?). As an aside, one of the guys who works the hunting section shoots the shit with me sometimes and he told me he had to stick with the policy (multiple coworkers about), but his interpretation was that if I bought my five boxes and took them to the car and came back in I'd be good for another five. |
