I purchased an upper used and got a decent discount on it, I'm happy about that. There's some markings that I can't tell what it is. Does this look like an anodized blem? Something else that is "fixable"? I took a little bore cleaner and elbow grease to it with no luck. The pattern on it seems like it wouldn't be an anodized blem, but I wouldn't know how to recognize what IS an anodized blem to begin with. Similar pattern on the inside as well. Aside from "shoot another 500 rounds through it", anything worth trying? Not losing sleep over this, but not knowing what it is is also intriguing. It looks like some oil was left to dribble down the side, interfering with the oxidation step, and leaving an imperfect surface for the dye to take. Fixing it would require stripping all the surfaces and reanodizing. I don't think that would be worth it because a new stripped lower would be cheaper. Unless you know a guy in the business who's really nice

I can't get pictures just yet, but expecting the upper back soon (muzzle getting put on, don't have the tools myself). This blem is of course below the dust cover and runs to the very edge of the upper. The other side, at the same location, also has this pattern, it's not the same of course, but the runny, "dripping" pattern is on the exact other side (on the inside) as well. |
