Way back in Dec (right after the Newtown shooting) I decided that I needed to get into an AR before they got banned (hey, it looked like a possibility at the time). So, since I couldn't afford an entire rifle at the time I bought a stripped lower. Once I had the "heart" of the gun according to the ATF, I took my time with the rest of it. I finally have all the parts in. I plan on actually building it all sometime in the next two weeks (and posting videos on my youtube channel) and I'm pretty excited about it. Below is a parts list, but before I get into that I have to say something. I keep seeing all these great prices for parts, now that they are becoming more readily available again and I'm already thinking about buying more parts for a new build. I think I'm addicted. What do y'all think?
GPI Custom Gunworks Stripped Lower receiver (first piece bought in Jan at a great price)- $129+$15S&H=$144 PSA STR LPK - $199 PSA Upper Receiver (16" mid-length, CHF FN Barrel, YHM Diamond Free Float Rail System) - $449+$15S&H=$464 Spikes Tactical M16 Full Auto Bolt (carrier 8620 and bolt carpenter 158 HPT/MPI) - $151.95 Charging Handle - $17.95 Firefield 2/5-10X40 Red/Green Mil-Dot Reticle Riflescope (it'll do til I can a nicer one) - $99.99 Strike Industries J-Comp Compensator - $29.95 PMAG's (Qty 9) and D&H USGI Mags (Qty 2) - approx $100 Various boxes of ammo .223 and 5.56mm - approx $200 Total is around $1400. Since then full complete rifles have come back down in price. There's a very nice PSA 16" Carbine with a Midwest SS12G2 rail system and a Vortex Scope on it for $899 right now. If I had the money I would jump on that. Oh well. The layaway build it myself is the way I have to go...lol |

2 WEEKS? you could have it together in 15 minutes, and be blastin shortly after. I couldnt wait that long to put the lower together and pin the upper to it. Whats your next one gonna be? ![]() Well, I know I could have it together pretty easily in just a few hours. However, I have a youtube channel and I wanted to do a series of videos on the whole process from start to finish. Various research items. It's probably old hat to folks like y'all, having AR15.com as a knowledge base, but not everyone knows about it. 8620 vs 9310 vs carpenter 158. Carbine vs mid length vs full length. HPT/MPI. Spikes Tactical/BCM/Palmetto/Noveske/No-Name brand. Etc, etc. Plus, there is actually putting it together. Then of course, there is always firing it for the first time and zeroing it. This will all be from a newbies POV. I'm hoping it'll be a good series. Anyways, thx for the great response. Take care and stay safe. |

What's in the STR LPK that makes it cost $199? Well,it's got Magpull furniture as well as the plastic Magpul trigger guard. As well as the standard LPK itself. Normally, every now and then Palmetto has it on sale for $169.99 or $179.99. However, I saw it in my local gun store and decided to support that even at the higher cost. Thx for asking. Take care and stay safe. |
