My company just left to go to Iraq (I PCS'd last year from my mech unit) and we are light and will be in HMMWV's this time. I am still stateside for a medical reason but will be joining up with them soon I hope. Those trucks scare the crap out of me. I rode in them a few times last time I was there and alot when I was in OIF I and I dont like them one bit. |

| I explained it in this thread already I believe but will do it again briefly. It was in a Bradley that was hit by an IED. The rifle belonged to the driver and was sitting behind him where the blast came up from. Everyone lived, nothing more than a chipped tooth if I remember correctly. |

Chem gear over BDU's a field jacket and secondary flack jacket. No tape because I was wearing them to stay warm. It was cold at night. This pic better illistrates my sloppyness. Mark. |

We were not only black from the MOPP suits we wore, but also from the soot raining down from the oil well fires. All that crap we inhaled out there makes me wonder some times. M-60 can attest to it. Both our units were operating in the same area during the ground war. |

Looks like your wearing chicken plate. We had some extra chicken plate body armor. It was too heavy to wear around so I chose to sit on it while driving my CUCV. Still wore my flak vest though, for what it was worth.

Nope. Not chicken plate. I left that in the Blackhawk with the Delta M-60. The thing I am wearing in the pict is a really thin layer of Kevlar front and back. Maybe good for fragments? Don't know and glad I didn't find out. Mark. |

Huh, the CAV never had any of that “fancy stuff” like the Apache units received. When I transferred to A Co I’ll never forget all the crap I helped unload from the conex’s that they took with them……washing machines and sewing machines? I always wonder where they planned on plugging them in! In the CAV my washing machine was a 1 pound coffee can….if there was time.

Chicken plate is a really heavy throw-over body armor with a front and back panel. Some peeps would take the back panel out and sit on it. I was issued some for Aerial gunnery. They say it will stop a .50 BMG... I didn't ever want to find out. Mark. |
