I have a Mini (non-stainless) and a 180B. I use them both (not at the same time  ) for trunk/truck gun. I would not replace the Mini with the 180B, just add the 180B to your collection.Don't pay any attention to those who claim the Mini is junk. It is not as accurate as an AR, including the 180/180B, but it serves the trunk/truck gun role well and it will also work if you are horseback and have a rifle scabbard. |

Chrome isn't a deal breaker. Fact is chrome is essential if you're firing full auto. Otherwise, steel is just fine. I had Walt Kruleck from Fulton say to me one that "Chrome is for a bullet hose, steel is for accuracy" and I agree with that. The lack of a dustcover is really the only danger to an otherwise solid rifle. You might not be able to castrate a gnat with a 180Bravo, but you'll sure as hell drop the guy the gnat is buzzing around. |

All kinds of people bashing based on no real experience at all, just hearsay. Not to say all who criticize have no experience, but the vast majority fit that description. |

I'm not making any judgement. I wouldn't mind one but I won't say opinions that those who have owned them gave me haven't discouraged me from buying one. From those who I have talked to that do/did indeed own one (not I heard from a friend of a friend) have not had many nice things to say about accuracy. |

Found the following tonight in the Armalite Website. This info was not available back in Aug 05 when I purchased my 180B. I wanted to add this to the thread about "AR-180B slop fix" but it appears to have been devoured by the Black Hole archive. Apparently there is no need to fix the slop in the receivers. RECEIVER FIT: The AR-180B™ is not a custom firearm. ArmaLite® gets a close fit between the receivers, but normal manufacturing variations may result in play or slight side to side receiver mismatch. This is not a manufacturing defect and has no effect on accuracy. No effect on accuracy. Well it must be true because I read it on the internet. I'm still gonna try and eliminate the slop. BTW- pics to follow of my new ACE folding stock on my 180B. |
I really like the looks of the tube folder, looks pretty solid/rugged as well. Does it handle/work as good as it looks? Tomac |
I like it, it is light and easy to handle. And it looks good! I took it out last weekend with my three year old son and he loved it. We shot about 100 rounds through it just to have fun. I wasn't able to sight it in because I left with out an allen wrench to adjust the frond sight/gas post. Oh well, I guess I will just have to drag myself out for another range trip. Phessor

Absolutely nothing wrong with all stock. Until this week, mine has been. Right now the shop has it putting on a flash suppressor. I will probably add a folder soon. |

Okay, where did you get the charging handle? It looks like an original, but I have one and I can't make it work on the B. |

If it doesn't fit, force it, lol My handle is a spare from my original Ar-180's you need to mill the very little slot in the carrier for the key on the handle, I cannot remember the size offhand but could measure for you if you need it. I guess not.... thats sad, i love my bravo.... if only i could find time to get her to the range id post a range report after mounting my new scope. hey josh...... i had an idea....... if i order another extended rail for the 180b and mounted my BSA red dot on it could i use it like a quick change so i can have the one mount for my Leupold scope and the secound for the red dot without having to re-boresight everytime i change mounts????? just wondered.... then id have both ranged and CQB options for my bravo. U can never know when u might need the versility. :D |
There are plenty of guys, myself included, who have a couple of different scopes setup on seperate mounts for different purposes. Some guys (and girls) are running low power scopes and red dots on one mount for quick shooting like bowling pins and IDPA matches and when they are out target shooting or whatever they toss the high power scope on . Back and forth and keep the zero. |

Bob, Did the trigger group drop right in? My trigger is in so tight I think the receiver is maybe oversize to the inside? Josh p.s. the trip was fine

Josh, The trigger was drop in. No internal mods were necessary. Took me about 10 minutes. The only tricky part is on reassembly, getting the bolt catch hole lined up under spring pressure from the safety/bolt hold open spring. Just use a punch to keep everything lined up. The Rock River NM trigger comes with a set of slightly oversized trigger and hammer pins. Probably by .001 or .002. They are the same length. This is done to minimize pin rotation. I used the original pins. About 2000 rounds with this trigger, no problems at all. Like I told you, this rifle has been 100% reliable since day one. Glad your trip went well. Bob |

What's the closest the AR-180B can get to the AK-47U and Ruger Mini-14 Govt. FOLDERS...? I love the Polish Underfolder AK's. They just look cool as hell. The Mini Govt. Model is pretty slick, too. I'd like to use my AR MAGAZINES, though. The AR-180B will do that, but HOW SMALL can it get? |

Nice work on your 'BRAVO' ( I like that term ). The "CCR" isn't exactly what I was going for --- too much like the 'Trenchcoat Mafia'...  That would be a little over the top, but I'd like something ultra compact, or as compact as possible, civilian legal, that uses the AR15 mags/ammo. This is just too clean ( I LOVE IT! ), but unfortunately doesn't take AR mags:  How the heck could you get even close to that with the BRAVO ? That's what I'm seeking. |

I thought you guys might like to see the differences between the various 180 charging handles. This style is the original crank used on the Cost Mesa, Howa and Sterling but on an AR-180B   This is the AR-180B knob   This is the Vulcan crank fitted to the AR-180B   180, 180, 180B, 180B/v

?_? whats the point of the curvy charging handle?? it dont rotate when the bolt open and closes does it??? that would be cool though.... it seems like the vertical height of it would just get in the way if ya got a rail and an optic mounted up there.  Im guessin thats why armilite changed it for the bravo.... even if vulcan was stupid enough to put it on theirs.....

Ok.... those were just my personal opinions. i have never had a problem with my "knob" lol  it does what its suposed to do and nothing more, nothing less. seems fine to me.  A dust cover to protect that gapping hole in the side would be nice though....  plus a nice flat topped reciever and a railed forearm would also be worthwild additions to the bravo. [note to armilite]

Hello all. Just a short range report on the Vulcan V18 charging handle on my 180B. Fired 150 rounds out of 3 different magazines. USGI straight 20, Master Molder (US Thermold) straight 20 and Orlite 30. Function was flawless as always. The crank charging handle acts as a empty case deflector. All my spent brass was in a pile @ 1 to 2 o'clock about 3-4 feet out. The extra length of the V18 handle did not cause any issues. Very easy to charge rifle with left hand (right handed shooter). Actually easier than using the original knob with my right hand. All in all, very pleased with the handle. As a side note, I'm up to 2550 rounds through the rifle with 0 malfunctions. Have a good weekend. If you can, celebrate our Independence Day by going to the range. I plan to. Bob |
