My fixed stock on my stag super varminter sounds like the buffer spring is really loose. It vibrates and clanks around. The gun goes bang every time but I would not think the army or anyone would be happy with that. The gun has less than 20 rounds through it. I wanted to get some advise before taking it to the field and having it fail. Is their any products that significantly smoth out the buffer spring action?

Is the buffer tube properly torqued to the lower?  How long is the spring uncompressed (out of the tube)?

It's probably normal.

There is a buffer spring made out of flat wire that is supposed to quiet the sproing noise when shooting.

This is stright from stag I never had it apart.

With the hydrolic buffer do you still need a spring?

You need a spring and a buffer.  They perform two separate functions.

When you state that your buffer/action spring is vibrating and clanking, is it during the shooting of the rifle or when you are just handling the rifle?  If it is during just handling the rifle, then from your explanation it doesn't sound normal as the spring should not rattle.  If the noise is occurring when  shooting the rifle, then this noise is a combination of the spring, buffer, and bolt carrier that are moving rearward then forward during the cycle of operation of the rifle, which is a normal noise and this noise means that the rifle is working as it should.  Some people will lubricate the spring to try to cut down on the noise, this is not necessary as lubrication will work its way back there when shooting and storage of the rifle vertically with liquid based lubricants.  Some competition shooters that I have observed will put things like Vaseline or wheel bearing grease on the spring as it is sticky and will lubricate it to cut down on noise, it makes a mess that grabs carbon etc and needs to be cleaned, and if you are going to do this then be careful not to put too much and create a hydraulic seal.
