I recently aquired a box of Winchester 9mm +P+ marked "law enforcement use only" and I was wondering if these would be dafe to shoot in my carbines: UZI, Kel TEc, etc... Thanks |
Colt Mk4 Series 70 1911's in 9mm DO NOT! I learned this one magazine and one damaged ejector too late! ![]() BTW, I call BS on Winchester saying not to us +P+ in the Uzi on their box. |
|
Never met or heard tell of a Sig that had any problems with it, my glocks, either. I have broken two Baretta barrel lock blocks with it, though. I have also never had any problems in my 9mm Oly upper. Shoot it, but I would probably not put it in the Kel Tec. Tom ![]() Edited to add: We use +P+ in the boss' Uzi, never had a problem. |
Make the thing run like it should. Typically the SMG will not feed hollow point with the "stamped" SMG feed ramp...... I have an IMI "B" model, factory with the solid steel "semi-auto" feed ramp, it will eat what ever I feed it, be it in 9mm, 45acp, 40 S&W. |

Some corrections: NATO 9mm is SAAMI "+P" pressure equivalent. "+P+" means something above that, and is not an official SAAMI designation. Glocks and HK USPs have no problem with +P+ ammo, though higher pressure ammo WILL result in a shorter lifespan in ALL handguns. It's just that the plastic framed ones have an unreal lifespan, so you'll never notice. The Uzi issue is certainly a concern with feeding, and possibly the round being detonated out of the chamber. Uzis have no problems with +P+ pressures, but they like FMJ bullets. Absolutely do not use +P+ in the Kel-Tec, and not even +P in the Marlin Camp Carbine. The Ruger PC9 is good to go with either. Not sure about the Storm. -Troy |
You should not shoot +p ammo in BHP's either... |
Why no +P in the Marlin? I haven't shot mine near as much as my other 9mm carbines, but I have used +Ps and it sounds like I shouldn't (I always follow your advice when it comes to ammo or mags! Good to hear about the PC9 - I've always wanted to pick up one & now I've got yet another reason... The Storm is rated for +P/+P+, but the owner's manual warns...
... which just makes sense. |
+P, or +P+ in a Camp Carbine will kill it in quick order. A local PD used to have them............. Apparently the bolt isn't up to the pressure. |
Good to know! I've never used +P+ in it, but I've shot some +P through it - I'd better have it checked out. Thanks! |

Neither the bolt nor the receiver is up to +P (much less +P+) ammo on the Marlin. Like most similar designs, the bolt slams back into a cross-pin on the receiver. The receiver walls are too thin and the hole for the pin deforms easily, and the bolt will break from slamming into it. These guns were made to be lightweight and fun, but are not up to hard use. I own one, BTW, and I learned about them from friends who also had them. One friend killed his with +P ammo... -Troy |
Really? Well damn, I guess I was wrong on the labelling. But as long as it will feed into the chamber an Uzi can pretty mcuh eat anything safely. My guess is Winchest suffered a lawsuit over an uzi having a KB! with that ammo, but that is only conjecture. Could you post a pic of the box where it says that? The guys over at Uzitalk might be interested to hear... Dawg |
Unless one of y'all knows I shouldn't, I'll let you know soon regarding Ruger P-95. Just picked up a box. For what it's worth, the clerk said yeah, it'll handle it as long as it's not constant usage, but then he's selling ammo too so... ![]() Anyone already tried it in a P-95? |
|
On another firearm, the pre titanium, etc SW airweights were always rated for the +p ammo. Their attorneys would never let them advertise that until the early 90's I guess you can apply different reason to it such as can you run your engine at 5000 rpm's? sure, but will it last as long? |
From The Storm's Owners Manual Warning ! The extended use of +P , +P+ ammunition may decrease the minor component service life expectancy . DO NOT use sub machine gun ammunition because the chamber pressure may reach or exceed the proof load pressure . |
And this is going to be true of ALL guns. Just like stomping your foot to the floor when leaving every stop light is going to be harder on your car then driving it the way my dad drives his cars. Even my over-cautious grandfather thinks my dad drives too slow... -Troy |
Guns and cars are expendable. Some day they get old and you replace them |
I agree. I shoot my weapons like I drive my car. Hard. Both weapons are going strong over 10 years later. Car? That's a different story. |

Someone stated not to use +p+ ammo in the BHP. If they meant Browning Hi Power, they're wrong. In 1989,the American Rifleman staff queried various manufacturers of 9mm pistols on this very subject. Two ,Browning and Glock said it was ok. Browning ran 5,000 rounds of Remington +p+ thru a new Hi Power and found no damage so it was ok for their guns. |
I've got a P95 and the +p ammo and higher is no problem. Ruger's are designed to use this higher pressure ammo. I read somewhere that the P90 series was designed to fire 15000 rounds of +p+ ammo , with no stoppages, and still get 3 inch groups at 15 yards. -sc |
