Russian 7.62x54r PZ Spotter/ High Explosive, Headstamp: 17/E/40, Red tip. Same idea as B-patrone except internal firing pin slides forward detonating a small capsule of tetryl, which in turn scatters the powdered incendiary composition held in the nose portion of the envelope.(pictures suck, tetryl is yellow, incendiary compound is gray) Still used today by Soviet Union and China. wolfgang

| Please do NOT attempt to cut any round in half until you know how its made up. Most of mine are cut under water to help keep the heat down, so not to ignite any of the compounds inside the projectile. (ie: tracers, incendiaries, explosives) For instance, had one of these PZ blow up on me while cutting it under water! I use many safety precautions, still have all my fingers and toes. Good for bassalope hunting. wolfgang |
