We make 4140 and 4150 all the time.

Check out www.republicengineered.com and www.republicengineered.com/products-coldfinished.php

We are the premier SBQ (specail bar quality) steelmaker in North America.

Of course, I just make the iron; the steelmakers turn it into a more useful product.

maybe you can settle the debate once and for all.............

Is there a measurable difference in these two materials when used as gun barrels? and if so, what is the difference?

Thanks

As I said in my post, I make the iron.  In others words, I run the blast furnace.  I am not a metallurgist, I am a chemical engineer.  There are 2 steelmaking QA guys in my office building.  I will ask them on Monday.

Our mill is in Lorain, OH, about 30 miles west of Cleveland.

I posted this in responce to Denny's Guns statement that 4150 was in short supply.  It is in the thread about the operator barrels being finished.
