Thanks fellas, they are looking good out there and hitting the velocities/accuracy as advertised, so we are very happy with it.

Yes, loaded ammo is coming... as well as formed brass.

Yes, it can shoot subs with the right setup. We have a couple guys out there that are going to test some 1:8 twist 10.5" barrels we had made. Results should be out soon. They won't be as "good" as the BLK or .338 Spectre... we're going to try 180-200 grain pointy bullets at 1050fps which will never do as well as 240+ grain pointy bullets going 1050fps. Will still be fun, though!

Here she is. A hodge podge of various parts.

Not very tacticool, but I am looking forward to shooting. Unfortunately, I have obligations taking me away from that chance this weekend.

Now, all I have to do is load up some rounds. To help that out, I have some 1200R on the way.

Barring any work related delays, I hope to have shot it and posted a range report by next weekend.

Some data on the new  277WLV ARP 16" scout barrels running 1680. Numbers are very promising.

This string was with 90grn TNT projos.

Formed brass now available for sale... very nice.

The 1680 powder also works well with 6.5mm PCC so with the .277 Wolverine it may become the go to powder for the light to medium heavy loads
especially if it show good accuracy, and with the shorter barrel lengths works even better...Good work BTW.

I can make that happen. I need to do a better job at promoting what we've achieved with this cartridge. I'll start working on that here. It is really performing above expectations and we have about 35 shooters out there right now, including a few folks from this forum and all are very happy.

What do you guys want to know about it so that I can better reflect what's happening here?

Somehow, slowly, it is becoming a multi-use "go-to" cartridge in the '15 platform.

When will loaded ammo be available for those of us that do not reload?

I hope in just a couple/few months. Sized brass is available now through JB's Firearms in Wisconsin.  They along with others are interested in producing loaded ammo for the WLV.

Can't wait til the wife lets me complete this and my .270 AR builds both look very promising.  Just need an upper and brt comp for the Wolvie and well the WTF2.

BTW THS I tested the 6.8 pistol build with your barrel again after realigning the gas block.  Runs a lot better now, but my nephews were still to panzy to shoot it lol.

Still can't hit much with peep sights on a pistol, as to be expected lol.  Gotta invest in a reflex sight or something soon and a Sig brace.

Well, I have stripped uppers and BRT comps at 10% off right now!

Glad the pistol got running. Those barrels were a great deal.

Looks like you were able to take advantage this time around!

Also - how does a .277 caliber bullet going 2800fps with an 85 grain TSX and 2600fps with a 100 grain AccuBond sound while using all standard AR15 .223/5.56 parts except the barrel, including all makes of .223/5.56 mags including PMAG's without any modification?

Looks like we're cookin' with gas now fellas!

You've got a wiener, uh, winner there man. 2800+ from a 16" ARP barrel with a 90gr TNT using a .223 case is crazy. Think of it like this. The mil contract 90GD is @2890fps from a 16", with 6.8 case, and most of our 6.8 hand loads are 2900-2950fps. You're 100+ fps low but using the cheap and numerous .223 / 5.56 cases and mags. You may be able to get 2550+ from the Hornady 110 OTM. It's usually about 50fps faster than the 110gr ABs of the same weight with the same load. If you can do that, you've beat SAAMI loaded Hornady ammo by 50fps. That will open eyes.

Now, if this thing gets flying off the shelves, which it should, when eyes are opened, projectile companies may be urged to design the 110s and under to actually open around 100fps slower than they do now, extending the range for both cartridges another 50 yards or so. your design here bodes well for the Wolverine and the 6.8.

I'll add one more thing. My best friend loves the 6.8, ( it was his kid's pic I posted on 68forums that got his first ever deer. DRT at 200+ yards, with a M21 reflex sight ),  but he's just starting to get into reloading rifle ammo, with the .223, and he wants a 6.8, but the outlay for the cases and mags is stopping him.

This would be perfect for him. I just need to talk him into it.

Spitting a .277 90grn TN at 75-77grn 5.56 velocities is a very noteworthy accomplishment. The case is showing its potential with a reduced neck down. Not to mention at most retail places the price difference between quality .224 & .277 pills isn't much if none at all. So for the loaders out there, why not step up & give it a try.

I think you have done an excellent job of promoting your baby . You have hid nothing , been very open and forth comming with any info request  . I had every intention of building a wolverine but was gave a 20 inch sabre defense 1/7 twist goverment profile barrel and I already had a few parts so you know how the rest of the story goes . some time this fall I will do a wolverine and look forward to giving it a whirl.

Heavy bullets usage for reliable subsonic use and to be able to take this out a ways. Accurate to 600yrds would be awesome.

It is accurate to 600 yards... rifles are shooting sub-MOA all day long.  Problem with the heavies is case capacity.  This cartridge shines in the 75-110 grain range.  Yes, it can shoot 120's and 130's but you really have an application-specific load at that point.  Here's a quick newsletter I'll be doing to provide updates:

The 8.2" or 10.5"?  I can have 8.2" here in a month or two. 10.5" are due in any time now.

Fuck it, you got me. My 1050 is gonna get a serious workout this winter. When will those little barrels be available?

The 8.2" or 10.5"?  I can have 8.2" here in a month or two. 10.5" are due in any time now.

8.2 sounds tempting

I have (15) 8.2" on order that should be here in a couple months and (10) 10.5" that should be here any day/week now.

Looking forward to it R!  You've been doing really well so far with load development and shooting itty-bitty groups.

As bad as my eyes have been the last three weeks, it is amazing that you don't need a tractor trailer to fill in the gaps of my groups!!

I went to Hornady's website to get some ballistic info. At the fps the bullets are shooting, all of the 100-120 grn bullets I have tested maintain 800+ ft/lbs. of energy out to 250 yards.
All of them maintain at least 1000 ft/lbs out to 150+/- yards with the 120 SST over 1000 to 175+ yards.
Also, with a 150 yard zero, none of the bullets rise more than 1.5"(LOS) and go out to(and beyond) 250 yards before they drop 10" below line of sight.

I have never taken a deer beyond 200 yards with most of my hunting distances between 75-150. While my good ole .30-06 is one awesome all-around cartridge/gun, this little .277 is my answer to a light gun firing a VERY low recoil round with deer sized game capability.  All that with the simplicity of only needing a new barrel on your AR.

I know the deer in SC aren't usually massive, but this is a big game AR15. Who can't like that!!  I bet it would wreak havoc on zombies too!!! LOL

I've been thinking about another SBR, and this cartridge intrigues me.  Like the Blackout, this strikes me as a very efficient cartridge, and I find that appealing.  For hunting hogs and deer here in Texas, this would be a great little round.  And because of the bore area to case capacity ratio, I would expect this round to be relatively easy on suppressors.  Any chronograph readings out of the 10.5" tubes?  I apologize if you've already posted the data and I just flat missed it.

It looks like the Wolverine case itself is long enough to prevent it from chambering in a 5.56 chamber.  There have a been a couple unfortunate instances where a person managed to accidentally chamber a hand loaded Blackout in a 5.56 chamber because the bullet got pushed back into the case.  Have you tried to chamber a round or an empty case only in a 5.56?  It would be a real bonus if the case length and neck diameter preclude loading in a 5.56 chamber.

It's a very handy lightweight rifle with some great punch.  10.5" chrony results, not yet but I have the first couple 10.5" barrels going out to folks next week so we will see some soon. It's a very efficient cartridge.

You can get a Wolverine round to chamber in a 5.56 IF you decide to try hard enough. We had to drop the bolt on a WLV round in a 5.56 chamber a minimum of 5 times, having to mortar the round back out each time, before the bolt would close on the very mangled round. So yes, with a big enough hammer you can make it happen, much like getting a golf ball through a garden hose lol.

I'm trying hard to update the forums and my Facebook page with product updates. I'll post everywhere when they come in. 18" barrels will be here next week.

Any chance of custom barrel lengths? Im not a fan of much gap between my rail and can. The 8.2" intrigues me but would prefer a little shorter to suck the can up tighter to the rail.

The whole point of the 8.2 vs. the standard 8.5" is the gap is decreased by .30, leaving (depending on your handguard) a .25" gap only between the barrel shoulder and the end of the handguard.

But yep!  I can order one in any length or configuration you want.  It would be a custom order obviously so 75% non-refundable deposit would be needed up front, and wait times are about 90 days "or so" for delivery.

I'd be happy to get you into a barrel you want/like 1slow01z71... I do really think you should to check this thing out and I think you will really like it once you get to shooting.  Let me know how I can help.  For an "8.whatever" barrel in 416R stainless with a blued 8620 extension I can get you into that barrel for around $210.00 even if only for one barrel.

Im just anal

I pretty much have all my barrels cut to suck the can right up to the handguard. Your 16" results have been about where I figured theyd be which isn't enough for me to jump ship but your 8" results are awesome. Youre getting about 200fps over what Im getting in my 8.2" 300blk with the same weight but what really appeals to me is a 90gr gold dot at what 2500? I shoot the speer 90gr TNTs out of my 12.5" 6.8 with good results as well. Im definitely surprised at the efficiency of this cartridge in the shorter lengths given the longer bearing surface for the same weight as a 30cal. What powder have yall settled on for the 90-110gr bullets? After my current 300blk SBR upper is converted to an integral Ill have a spare can thatll need a home, so of course an upper has to be built for it

I think we hit about 2400 with the Gold Dot out of the 8.2.  Here's the chart I pulled for reference.  That upper has been sent from place to place for people to play with.  It is making its way back to me this week and it will be posted for sale.  Here's the chart we got done before it started traveling:

Where does one get the 90gr Gold Dot projectiles?
Owning a handgun doesn’t make you armed any more than owning a guitar makes you a musician.

Safety is something that happens between your ears, not something you hold in your hands.
