I wonder why they made the material so thick, why they didn't streamline the ring, and why they left such a large gap in between the two sides when it is installed. I have no doubt that it is a good product simply because you are selling them but I have no true need for one and if I bought one I would like to have it look good. |

I mean I can see that being helpful and all but c'on, I think is way overpriced for what it is really...... on the other hand, it look good ! In this day of $5.00 and up coffees and $9.00 piss warm stadium beers, $80.00 for a well machined functioning tool that will last a life time is hardly surprising. BTW calling it "a ring" is not really fair or accurate. Over priced? I don't know, but the market will let us all know soon enough. As long as they are selling them they must be priced right. |

Bear with me on this, cause I am thinking from an operator's view. I want to see a tactical version of this great product. The "laser etching may be good and crisp" but what function does it serve? I don't need to be reminded of who made it and sells it. A much smaller logo on the top would have been better.
When I am looking over the scope, I don't want my eyes to naturally be drawn to the letters, which might happen. I would rather have seen corresponding magnification numbers instead of a long web address, or at least not having them highlighted in white. Maybe have the ring in a contrasting color other than black. It looks like the ring could be flipped around and still work? That way, we could mark it ourselves. |

IN TODAY'S MARKET, I CAN'T SAY I BLAME A MANUFACTURER FOR WANTING TO BRAND HIS PRODUCT. YOU'LL NOTE MORE THAN ONE LOGO IN THE BELOW CLOSE-UP: 
THE POWER ADJUSTMENT RING IS NOT SYMMETRIC. ITS DESIGN PRECLUDES FLIPPING AROUND THE LEVER. YOUR IDEA OF MARKING THE CORRESPONDING MAGNIFICATION DEFINITELY HAS MERIT. FAMILIARITY WITH THE NIGHTFORCE 1-4 NXS SHOWN WOULD QUICKLY REVEAL THAT THE THREE O'CLOCK POSITION IS 1X, THE NINE O'CLOCK POSITION IS 4X. THESE ARE THE POWER SETTINGS I IMAGINE ONE WOULD BE MOST LIKELY TO USE. 30 DEGREES OFF EITHER ALTERS THE MAGNIFICATION BY ONE POWER. STILL, THE CORRESPONDING POWERS MIGHT BE OF SOME INTEREST IN GETTING ACCUSTOMED TO THE NEW POWER THROW LEVER AND WHAT IT IS DOING FOR YOU. BUT, THIS WOULD ENTAIL MAKING TWO VERSIONS FOR THE NIGHTFORCE COMPACT LINE, SINCE THE NIGHTFORCE 2.5-10X24 AND 2.5-10X32 NXS SCOPES UTILIZE THE SAME MAGNIFICATION POWER RING, BUT OF COURSE MARKED 2.5 - 10 INSTEAD OF 1 - 4. OF COURSE, THE LOWEST SETTING, 2.5X, WOULD STILL BE AT THE 3 O'CLOCK POSITION, AND THE HIGHEST, 10X, WOULD BE 90 DEGREES OUT AT THE 9 O'CLOCK POSITION. BUT THE SETTINGS IN BETWEEN MIGHT BE NICE TO HAVE WITH THE HIGHER MAGNIFICATION SCOPES .... IF THE EYE COULD READ THEM AT THAT DISTANCE. THE NIGHTFORCE COMPACT SCOPES HAVE AN EYE RELIEF OF 3.75". THE POWER THROW LEVER IS 3" FORWARD OF THE AFT EDGE OF THE OCULAR LENS. SO, WHEN YOU'RE IN A SHOOTING POSITION, THIS PUTS THE LASER ETCHING ON THE THROW LEVER NO CLOSER TO YOUR MK 1 MOD 0 EYEBALL THAN APPROX 7 INCHES. LONG AGO, IN A DISTANT CENTURY, I HAD TO ENDURE NUMEROUS MILITARY FLIGHT PHYSICALS, WHICH INVOLVES AMONG OTHER THINGS A MINIMUM FOCAL LENGTH EYE TEST. WHILE YOUR CONCERN ABOUT DRAWING THE EYE AWAY FROM THE MORE IMPORTANT TASK AT HAND IS CERTAINLY VALID, WHAT I RECALL IS THAT THE ADULT HUMAN EYE CANNOT TYPICALLY FOCUS ON ANYTHING INSIDE OF 9 INCHES FROM THE EYE, AND, BELIEVE ME, IT DOESN'T GET ANY BETTER AS A FUNCTION OF AGE AND AWARENESS. PUTTING THE LASER ETCHING ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE RING WOULD OF COURSE SOLVE THE PROBLEM FOR EVEN A THREE-MONTH OLD. I'M SURE YOU CAN IMAGINE WHY INFANTS NEED TO BE ABLE TO FOCUS ON SOMETHING VERY CLOSE ... AND US GUYS NEVER GET OVER IT. GOOD SHOOTING, WES |

Iraqninja: While I see your point of the web address being unnesessary and perhaps distracting, I have to tell you that I can't see squat inside 10" and full detail begins at about 18" for my uncorrected vision. But I got to admire Wes's reference to what infants want most and "us guys never get over". Sounds like Wes is back healthy! |
