I've been unable to focus on this for some time, but thanks to the others who've taken up the slack here - Edit: 1/19/2006 going thru this this evening. I request that you all don't turn this into a forum for ethnicity bashing, etc. I am an American by the grace of God and don't have a dog in that fight; there is a lot to like about the Yugos and each ethnic group have their sins and flaws; they are really more alike than not. Primer on Balkan markings: Bosnians: Usually the lily, fleur-de-lis, like the Boy Scout logo. Sometimes you may see a crescent moon and star. (Most Bosnians were Muslim, but not all. I know some highly decorated Serbs who fought on the Bosnian side). Croats: Checkerboard-looking coat of arms. Serbs: Crosses, cross with four "C"s (actually, S's). As I noted previously, the slogan is usually translated as "Only Unity Saves the Serbs" (samo sloga, srpina spasava). You may see eagles as well. Note the Cyrillic alphabet is either letters that work in ours - Roman - or Greek letters. It was created by St. Cyril specifically for the sounds in the slavic languages (there are extra letters for sounds like zh, ch, sh and so on). Nice thing is that everything is spelled phoneticly. Use of this alphabet means that a Serb or Montenegrin did the carving. Oh, Kragujevac - "kragooyevats" - and C. Zastava is Red Flag Most of your firearms/parts appear to have been in Serbian hands. first tour was with UNPROFOR winter tour 94 visoko second tour was in 96 when the UN turned it over to NATO and I helped close out Visoko (was only there for 5 weeks) learned most of the talking from our female bartenders and cleaning staff  and I'll add the UN sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can take some pics of some of the serb, croat and muslim stuff I have here still |
So far, all the pictures of carvings have been in Serbo-Croatian and have been displaying Serbian slogans or names, at least the ones I've seen. I can't imagine these going to a third party. I'm pretty sure they either came straight from Serbia or also quite likely, from Bosnia where they may have been taken from Bosnian Serb militia's, which would also possibly explain the overall poor shape. |

Yes, although the only Anita I personally know is a Muslim. Hmm, mostly seems to be names and religious symbols except for one guy who sent me pics with a lot of letters carved in a row - Cyrillic "H"'s (looks like X). Could have been Croats ('Hrvati") he killed? |
yep I was there when they were fighting on the opposite hills..we use to watch that damn T55 pull out and throw some rounds downrange then pull back into its hide...that was on the right hand hill looking from the camp....ahhhhhhh memories  do videnja gospodic |

Looks like 'Dokich' - Name, could be either serb or croat. Dakich also. There is also a letter that looks like a D with a slash, makes the 'dj' sound (sort of like 'George', sorta) - I have a Montenegrin friend named Djordje ('George') but he's called Djoko for short. |

The first one I think is a Polish womans name. The second one is some Serb name..."RASHO" the third is a Russian name. 4th one...dunno. |
