I was watching various videos of people doing speed reloads of ak-47s and ak-74s where they smack the mag out with the next mag.  I've got a drop pouch on my vest's belt so the speed reloads haven't been a real concern before since I do it the slow way to put them in the pouch but I think it would be more practical in an emergency to do speed reloads.

They didn't appear to be touching the mag release lever at all.  They just hit the mag and it falls out.  Am I seeing this correctly?  My gun is a saiga 5.45mm I converted myself and using the surplus bulgarian plastic mags with no factory numbers.  Did the people doing the speed reloads have to modify their mags to be loose or what cuz I don't think my mag will come out without breaking doing this.

The saying "The hand is quicker than the eye." comes to mind.
They are hitting the mag release first then letting the mag they are
holding slip off the mag release and hit the used mag in the gun to
knock it out.  Takes some practice but start out slow and you can do it.

They are.

They are either hitting the original mag release and then sliding down to hit the mag, or they are using an after market mag release that they can hit with their trigger finger such that all they have to do is hit the mag out.

If you're ever in a situation where a speed reload is going to save your life, you should have already transitioned to your secondary weapon (pistol).

That being said, train to retain the mag and this isn't an issue.
