Recently I discussed making homemade tannerite for explosive targets at the range by using fertilizer.

the fertilizer above was blended to powder, and put into a soda can with roughly 5-10% dark flake pyro grade aluminum...

Shot with an AR-15, it did not explode...  guess it's back to the drawing board.

The other bad thing about the range today was that my Kobra decided that it was not on the rifle tight enough, so after I finally zeroed it in, I gave it a push and it came fully off... when I retightened it really nicely, the zero was gone so I had to redo it quick and dirty, so blah.

Also, I bough what I was told was 1000 rounds of 7.62 FMJ and it turned out to be HP, so, I'm sure that damaged my accuracy a little, and I might even have to re-re-re-zero once I do get some FMJ to chunk downrange.

Oh, and the other thing that was not cool was that West Virginia weather today decided to be extremely hot and humid.  So warm and nasty that even the breezes that blow by just feel like a large dog exhaling its long, final breath on your face and down your neck.

Even with all those problems,  my love of firearms and shooting still allowed me to enjoy myself :).

Where did you get the 34-0-0? My local Co-Op won't sell it to me.

ETA: The AL powder must be at leat 300mesh for it to work. I've got some 200 mesh and it didn't work too well. (read: it didn't go boom)That is pretty much all tannerite is. IIRC, they add Titanium powder and Iron Powder to make the bright flash.

They have it at wal-mart... $7 a bag.

Where do you get 300+ mesh al powder?

I'm going to Walmart tomorrow!!!

For the AL powder, try here: United Nuclear or here: Firefox Enterprises You can also find it on Ebay if you look. That is where I got my 200 mesh and iron oxide to make thermite from.

Well, went to my local Wal-Mart this weekend, and of course, they didn't have it. I'm still trying to locate some for my own experimentation, but I'm running out of places to get it from. Wanna ship me a bag?
